HARD LUCK.
The Orange Crop Blighted, In Placer
: County. %
Saturday’s Auburn Herald says:
. Whether it was caused by the very hot
weather that occurred about the first of
this month, or by the unusually cool
spell that immediately followed the hot
weather, or by both, we don’t know, but
it is certain that the young oranges in
this part of the country have been blighted
by the weather to such ah extent that
they are-nearly all falling off the trees.
Some think that every one of them
will drop and that we will have no
oranges at all this Fall, while others believe a few will survive the blight and
that they will be all the better Dy reason
of being few. The trees do not seem to
be injuriously affected in the least. -. The
blight falls heavy-on the Auburn Orange
Company which had a splendid prospect
for a big crop this fall, Nearly all of
their thirty acres would have—borne fruit
this year had it not been for this late-and
unusual damage.
