ORAL THEORY AND METHODS—15 CREDITS,
I
What is meant by “theory. of teaching?”
GOING DAFT,
Will Green Is Beeoniog Beside Himselfof

Speaking of the passage of the Catinetti mining bill in the House the Colusa
Sun says:
And now what?
Will the Lill be as popular in the Senate? Has the valley no friends in Congress?) Was everything yiven up at ths
notorious love-feast pt theminers and
farmers? Every candidate for Congress
from the district embracing the counties
of Sacrainento, Sutter and Yuba, the
three counties that suffer most, is setting
his canvass for the mining vote. The
newspapers of these Counties de not protest against such a condition.
ple ar hot moving in the mateer of LavThe pecing soine representation in Congress.
The tables republished a few days ago
show that there was never over $2,000,000 gold taken annually fromthe hydraulic mines. There is no claims to
richer mines. What was done: ruined
che rivers and great areas of land. Now
we are told that the miners are prpared to take out $10,000,000 a year, or
tive times as much as before. This means
five times as much mud in the river; and
aot one particle of the material that injures the river cun be stopped by a ‘dum,
‘Phe luve-feast was held, the bill has
been passed in the teeth of the facd that .
the U. 8. engineer reported that the
dams would uot.do the work. The
suit going on at San. Francisco seems to
bs a scheme to reverse Judge Sawyer.
There are eight qounties—rich, prosperous counties—vitally interested in the
natter, but they seem to be asleep.
Colusa is away up high. She will lose the
vavigation of the rivérs; ‘ut all the
country below Marysville, including Sactamento city, will meet a doom as ce:tain
as death; and if the ‘bill becomes a law,
the boy is not only now born, but the
man is 75 years old who will see the
Scate capitol m ruins,
It looks like men are afraid to try to
stem a popular current—afraid to take
-hat side of an issue that seems to be be
soming unpopular, We do not under
stand this feeling. Our aimis to be right
—and let all else take care of itself.

Stories innumerable have been told
relative to the engineer and the eympathy existing between him and his locomotive.” Veracious writers have reveled
™m singular tales in which the engineer's
superstitions mind and the locomotive's
almost animal instinct have been the
chief and bewildering: features: But the
remarks of a girl typewriter the other

thought and discussion, and discovers a
new subject for the dissertation of psy

“My. typewriter is intelligent,” said
this human typewriter, referring to her
mechanical friend,
“That is, . understand it and it understands me, [ wouldn't lend it to any
one, It’s a sensitive little thing, and

soon be manifested to me when . again
attempted to use it, Skillful ty pewriters are’ extremely jealous in the
care of theif instruments. . have sey
eral very dear friends engaged in the
same business, yet not one could obtain
the use of my typewriter, and Lam con

to be correct. Those who have their
