Three bottles of Electric Bit. Catawba, O., had five large Fever sores on back to Smartaville. He gives the following particulars of the-affair: : The family, with the exception of Supervisor Robinson, ‘who returned from San Francisco Sunday at noon, had been at chiireh. Cornelia, a girl of twelve years of age, with her little sisters, ran ahead of the older folks and got home about ten’ minutes ahead of them. She saw a light in the house and supposed that her father had got. home sooner than he expected to, aud ran in the house to greet him. Instead she found a man dirk ia hand and pistol in the other. He told her to “look down the barrel of the pistol,’’ but the brave little girl said she would not do it, : “If you scream I'l shoot you,” were the next words of the wretch. ‘I come here to kill your —old father, and I intend to kill the rest of the Boa d for offering a.reward for the arrest of Frederickson, . ‘I am the man that killed Pascoe myself.” He then put a cloth in the girls mouth so she could not speak, threw a barley sack over her head and tied it around her waist. He then took the girl about 500 yards froin the house and threw her into a pile of brash. The scamp then seated himself upon a rock to rest. By this time the fulks had got home and made a search for Cornelia, but nowhere could she be found. The screams of the girl frightened the villain and he grabbed for the child, catching hold of the sack which he had placed over. her head, and pulled it com. pletely off. The girl then ran away and the villain went off in anoth.r direction, The girl arr'ved home after her terrible experience uninjured. A number of armed men went out in pursuit of the wreteh but he was not to be found. The general supposition is that the man is insane and had wandered to the Superviser’s house, and finding no one there took possession of it, and when the girl arrived took & notion in his head to carry the girl away. From his description the people down there say he had never been seen in that part of the county before. ; What De You Take Medicine for? Mr, vlorgan has been in poor health for some time, and several days ago went to Seig'er Springs, Lake county, hoping to recuperate, The dootor there informed Mr. Morgan after he had been at the Springs three or four days that he was getting worse and had better go home, He went to Oakland and soon after arriving wag7taken seriously ill, His wife was sent forand left here on the 5:55 train last evening. At 10 Pp. m, David Morgan went to Colfax by private conveyance to connect with the next train. It is feared that the sick man cannot recover, He is suffering from heart disease, complicated with a dropsical affection, Tt was reported last night that a dispatch had been received stating Mr, Morgan was dying. Today there was a rumor that he was dead. Both reports were untrue. +8. ~ABLLO, THERE. Have You Heard About Shurtleff & Son's Big A LEVEL-HEADED MAN. — A Good! Suggestion From Depaty District Attorney Riley. The following we find in the Un‘o:, and be acted upon immediately : Ep. Untox:—The recent criminal occur rences in. this section demonstrate conclusively that there should be. better means of communication between the various parts of the county,as a preliminary to better policeing. At present a great portion of the county is practically cut off from the cities during most of the twenty-four hours, and especially at night, -the time most favorable tor the perpetration® of crime. The means cf conveying intelligence is absolutely wretched, and in connection with the kidnapping at Indian Springs Sunday night, the officers were compelled to go to another vounty in order to telegraph to the large towns, Twenty-three Constables, City Marshals and Sheriffs cannot be expected to properly police a county sixty-five miles long and as large as the State of Rhode Island, unless their work is supplemented by all modern Means of overtaking and apprehending criminals, The Supervisors should at’ once place a telephone in tlie Sheriff's office at the Court House. That office is open night and day, arid with the proposed introduction of telephones in the large and small towns the convenience and benefit will soon be appreciated. The econonty of having communitimes is apparent to all. ; : P. T. Rivery. An important meeting of Y. M. I., No. 30, will be held on Friday evening, Jily 28th.
