A Peculiar Proceeding. The San Francisco company recently engaged in prospecting the Hudson . mine on Deer creek afew miles below this city, and which quit work about the middle of this month, left its labor and supply bills for June and July unpaid. It is now endeavoring to settle by paying forty cents on the dollar, andone of the employes has been prevailed upon to accept that proportion for his claim. Other creditors refuse however. to take the forty per cent., and the speculative Sau Franciscans, who are said to be amply able to pay in full, are in a fair way to get. some lawsuits on their hands. for Sheriff. W. W. Nelson, an old time resident of tie Biss, but who has been living at Grass Valley fora number of years, is announced in today’s Transcript as a candidate for Sheriff, subject to the decision of the Democratic County Convention., Mr. Nelson has a very large acquaintance in the county, is popular and would make a good runifnominated by the Democrats. information Wanted. General Passenger Agent T. H. Goodman of the Southern Pacific Company, has just issued a circular to all ticket and passenger agents, announcing that the round-trip fare from Sacramento to Boston for those intend'rg to be present at the Grand Army Convention in that city, will be~ $110 The tickets will be on sale from July 31 to August 5th, inclusive. They will be good only for a c nt nuous trip eastbound and mast be used by hoiders so as to arrive in Boston on or hefore August 13th. . Fer the return journey they must. be used between August 12th and: 20th, and will be good for passage to Chicago, St. Louis and New Orleans, to the 25th proximo. In case a holder of a ticket wishes: the time extended the privilege will be granted by a certificate from the joint agent of the terminal line, and the-ticket-will have to be deposited with the agent tillused.
