GOLD MINES.
To Be Listed on the Stock Exchange Free of
Cost for 30 Days.
—=
Report :—Recognizing that gold mining
in this State and along the Pacitic coast has
entered upon a new era of prosperity, the
San Francisco Stock and Exchange Board
at an executive session Wednesday moraing,
made a bid for the placing of more gold mining upon its list.
Upon: motion of George Ives, who st
forth the importance of this measure in a
neat speech, the Board unanimously resolved to suspend to all gold mining companies for thirty days from this: date the
charge of $500 for listing stocks, and to allow them to list their shares upon payment
of the'$100 annual dues.
It was also resolved to have a circular
printed giving all information upon this’ subject and to send a copy to-every gold mining company and gold mine owner upon the} _
ee Pacitic coast. : &
: The first gold mining company to take a
advantage of this offer of the San Francisco
Stock and Exchange Board is the MayHower
Gravel Company, whose directors made application this morning to have the capital
stock listed upon the terms offered.
.. The Mayflower was listed upon the Pacifie
Stock-Exchange last year; aud the-first sale
was at $1.75 per share. From December
‘15, 1892, to date—a period of a little over
séven months—this company has paid dividends amounting t¢ $5 cents per share, and
the stockis now quoted nominally at $2.25
per share. The company now has about
$17,000 surplus inthe treasury and large
bullion shipments are being made from the
imine.
The Pacific Stock Exchange was the first
to offer extra inducements for the listing of .
gold mining stocks. As far back as June,
1892, it sent out a circular stating’ that its
terms for listing such stocks would be $100
forthe tirat.-year-and-—$50for-every-year
afterward. Had the San Francisco Board
taken similar action at that time it is probable that fifty gold mining stocks, many. of
them dividend-paying, would have been
added te its list.
The oaly gold ‘mining stocks iow upon
the list of the San Francisco Board are those
of a few Bodie mines.
Ifthe big Board follows up_its_action_.of
Wednesday in an energetic ‘and businesslike way it will succeed in working up a
large business in mining stocks, for a big
‘boom in gold mining in this State has surely
begun.

8. F. Post: The brokers of the San Francisco Stock Exchange have taken a step
which seems in the right direction. It isa
pity they did not think of it sooner.
At a meeting of the Executive Committee
be oo Wednesday morning a regolutien was cari tee ried to suspend the rules for a period of
£ thirty days, requiring the payment of $500
: for the privilege of listing mines on the
rey: al Exchange.
This applies only to gold-producing mines,
All that will be asked now is the payment
of the annual dues, which are trifling.
This will afford a good opportunity for
the owners of California gold mines to bring
their shares before the public.
One company has already taken advan.
tage of the offer, which is only good for
thirty days, and the application of the Mayflower mine was filed Wednesday.
The action of the board will meet with
general approval, while it will be the means
of opening up a new and profitable line’ of
speculation.

ey During the prevalence of the Grip the past
season it was a noticeable fact that those

escaped all the troublesome after effects of
the malady. This remedy seems to have «
peculiar power in effecting rapid cures not

THE FRENCH CORRAL AFFAIR 4
Patrick Fitzsimmons Arrested and Now Behind
the Bars of the County Jail.
Constable Dillon returned ftom French
Corral last night with Patrick Fitzsimmons,
who he had arrested on a charge of assault
with intent to commit murder, Fitzsimmons was taken before Justice Malloy,
and waiving bail of $2,000 was sent to the
county jail. His hearing has been set for
Tuesday, August Ist, at 1 o’clock Pp. M.
We learn from a gentleman who came
over from French Corral that Fitzsimmons
had vbstructed the Milton Company’s ditch
to such’ ai extent that the Kate Hayes
mine had to suspend operations temporarily.
Rocks had been rolled into the ditch that
required many men to remove, besides ob«
structions of different kinds. The gentleman says that Fitzsimmons would probably
have killed Charley Miller with his ax had
it not been for the timely. interference of
other parties. The Milton Company has
bad more or less trouble with Fitzsimmons
for some time, the latter tampering with
their ditch whenever he felt so disposed.
The ditch runs through his property, thus
giving him ample opportunity to commit
depredations. He has got himself into a
scrape how that will, probably result in his
being sent to the penitentiary for awhile.
Constable Dillon went to French Corral
this afternoon for the purpose of subpensing
witnesses. District Attorney Ford and P.
F. Simonds will prosecute the case.
What Hie Physician Says.
D. E. Morgan returned from San Francisco this morning. He reports the candition of his brother Will to be slightly better
in respect to the dropsical affection. The
attending physician says he may live a few
days, a week, or possibly longer, but that
he cannot survive a great while, He is in
good. spirits and talks cheerfully % tho e
around him. He insists en reading the
Txansortpr every day, and after perusing
one of the artigles relating to him, in which
it was said that he could not live long, he
remarked; ‘¢ Well, J’ll fool ‘em.” He
does not even now seem to fully realize the
critical condition he is in, His father,
John T. Morgan, telegraphed from Wales
for fall particulars of his condition. D. E.
Morgan today cabled his father that Will’s
condition had changed bat little and that he
could not live much longer,

‘Address as Above.”
There is one lawyer in the city who
will never again make use. of Latin
phrases in writing business letters, A
short time ago he had to write a letter to
a client in a neighboring city regarding
an important lawsuit that was to come
up before the court in the course of a
few-days. The ihformation he solicited
was highly essential to his case. In writhead with his printed address at the top.
In closing his letter he. signed himself
thus: “John Langdon, Address ut supra.”
After waiting several days for the reply, which did not come, he again wrote
his procrastinating client and asked why
he had not sooner answered his first letter. The next day he received a reply in
which the client said that he had answered the letter and addressed it to
“John Langdon, Ut Supra, N. Y.”—Buffalo Express.

Instincts That Lead to Death.
Professor Mivart proved that there are
“instincts” that lead to death by failing
to adapt themselves to a change of circumstances. Migratory quail by thousands perish in the deserts of northern
Africa, where their ancestors used to find
a comfortable winter resort, abounding
with forests and even with grainfields
if we shall credit Pliny's account of the
Numidian coast lands. The forests are
gone, but myriads of quail still follow
in the saine route at the risk of starvation.—San Francisco Chronicle.
