Hunting a Husband For 9 Nevada
County Girl.
County Clerk Morgan has received applications for particulars from no less than
twenty-seven single men who were favorably impressed by the portrait as published in Monday’s Transcript of the
well-known young woman of this neighborhood who is in search of a husband
and has delegated Mr. Morgan to act as
her agent. ‘The inquirers have ranged in
age all the way from beardless youths
not yet out of their teens to gray and
grizzled miners who have been here since
49 or the early ’50’s. Each caller is requested to fill out a printed blank reading as follows: :
Iu return Mr. Morgan gives the inquirer a printed slip setting forth the
following facts relative to the lady: Native of Minnesota, aged 31, demi-brunette,
hight 5 feet and 54 inches, weight 132

mother alive and dependent upon me for
support, fond of children, References—

yesterday in this connection offered hima
cow and a calf on condition that he would
bring about a match between the applicant and the fair advertiser; but Mr.

GREEDY ANTI-MINERS.
They Will Do Anything to Raise a Lity tle Coin,
Says the Placer Herald: Every conceivable pretext is seized upon by the anti-slickens fanatics to harass and injure
the miners.. .One.week it is.one thing and
the next week it is something else. The
latest is the passage by the Board of State
‘Prison Directors of a preamble and resolution setting forth that the State dam at
Foslom is in danger from the accumulation of slickens, and calling on the Attorney General to commence an action, in
the name of the State, toprevent persons
from dumping debris and clay into the
American river or its tributaries above
saiddam. This move was no doubt incited by Devlin, who: is attorney of the
Sacramento Supervisors against the miners and also a member of the Board of
Prison Directors. However much devilish deviltry Devlin may doin this. matter,
he knows, as we all know, that any claim
wo the effect that the Folsom dam is impaired or threatened by slickens is the
merest pretense; and Devlin ought to
know more, that such a pretense is a _reection on the Board itself under whose
guidance the dam was built, and on the
engineer who did the work. When the
dam was started it was well known and
admitted that it would have to stand all
the accumulations that its height would
check, and it was constructed accordingly, . Placer and Nevada counties.. He leit no
Since its completion it has been the pride
of the State and the constant boast of the
Directors that it is solid as adamant and
ag enduring as the rocks on which it fests,
and that all the floods or accumulations
of ages cannot disturb one stone that enters into its structure. It is time the people understood that what has been known
as the prosecution of the miners is taking
the form of persecution, and it matters
not any more whether the miner worke
any injury or not, the policy: of his enemies is to harrass and injure, him all they
