Up to This Writing the Officers Have Failed to Find. Him.—Word was sent here on Saturday that Fredrickson, the murderer’ of Sheriff Pascoe had called at a Mr. Anderson’s house at Jones’ Bar. It seems that Fredrickson arrived there while Mr. Anderson was reading an account wot the murder to his family, when Fredr:ckson walked in and interrupted him by ‘saying: ‘I have been accused of that murder, but I am lunocent, and will not be taken alive.” He was wearing the cartridge belt spoken of in’ descriptions of hin and speaks broken English, ,.A very large posse went from Grass Valley and this city to Jones’ Bar Monday but they failed to get sight of the object of their search. The officers returned to this city early Tnesday morning. They searched the count. y thoroughly and found tracks showing that the. murderer escaped down thé ditch and they think he got. off towards Smartsville, ~The otlicers say there is no doubt but what he is the man wanted for themurder. ft is thought fredrickson—isheading _for Marysville og some other place where he can jump a train. —_——Philip Manuel; who lives on Cement Hill, about three miles from this city» says he is satisfied that the man Frederickson, who is supposed to be the* mur derer of Sheriff Pascoe, stopped at his cabin Saturday night. Manuel met a stranger on the road near his place, who asked to-be given his supper and the privilege of stopping over night. The fellow-was-taken-to-Monuel’s cabin had} “his supper and remained over night, e “Jeaving between 5 and 6 o’clock next morning. He had a large Smith & Wes. son. revolver and two boxes of cartridges, Lut said nothing about being suspected o; having killed Pascoe. An Indian bey informed Deputy Sheriff Douglass that the man who—is being hunted was atthe campoodie near “this city on Saturday and that he slept that night in Schwartz’s barn at Pleasant Valley. This morniug at 3 o’clock the suspect was seen at Mooney Flat and it is supposed that he went from there to Wheatland. Sheriff Conroy of Placer county has gone in pursuit. In old times it-seemed te, be. thought that a medicine must be nauseating to be effective. \~Now, all: this is changed. . Ayer's Sarsaparilla, one of “the most powerful alterativés, is agreeable to most palates, the flavor bein, medicinal, y. no means 80+. Green Heard from Again. Colusa Sun:—‘“‘Hydraulic mining will be resumed, Green to the contrary not— withstanding.” So says the Nevada Transcript, and we say ‘“‘propel, go ahead and do it.” Green will rejoice ‘in the success of every plag by which it may be done; in fact he has never offered any objection to any mining, but has simply opposed putting mud in the river under any pretext. We rejoice in the success of any and every enterprise, but California cannot afford to have this valley‘and this river destroyed. We have said that we do not believe the dams will prove efficient, but we hope they may. We pay none of the cost, and we do not propose to take any of the chances. iarcie-enibiieensn ow Wave Tossed, fea sick voyagers suffer unspeakable tortures. The day was most favorable, the heat not heing near 80 oppressive as is usual at thie season, which fact was fully -appreciated by everybody and especially by those who marched ww the procession. There was an immense throng of people in the town, Nevada City sending over 1,000 persons, besides which there were delegations from Smartsville, IndianSprings,-Spenceville; Rough and Ready and all points throughout the lower part of the county. All day long the sidewalks on the principal streets avere packed with people. The committee had very wisely provided ‘seats along the streets, which proved to be a decided convenience. : The procession was a pleasing sight und as regards length and general appearance was one of the finest Fourth of July parades we have seen in the county im _many years. Those who marched complained some of the length of. the line of march, which indeed was quite tiresome. It is unnecessary to give, the order of procession or the route. followed, is we have already published” the same. The~exereises of the day were held inder a large cauvas ~en., Main-streét, in tront of the Holbrooke, and were highly interesting. Hon. A. B. Dibble officiated as President of the Day. D, Eastin have bought the Milt. Culbertson mine; adjoining the National, and propose sinking the shaft 100 feet deeper. The ledge is from six to seven feet wide aud contains good milling ore. It is the purpose of the preset owners to put up a ten-stamp mill before long. The National mine, situated two miles this side of Graniteville, is owned by Mrs. D, R. McKillican of North Bloomfield. The machinery is run by water power, a Huntingtou mill . being used to crush the quartz. The ledge is sixteen feet wide at the bottom of the shaft, and the mine is paying well. Seventeen men are employed there. George Mainhart & Co., of Grass Valley, are running a tunnel on the old Erie mine, which was formerly owned and operated by Jake Holland. . Parties from San Francisco are making arrangements to work the California inine, and it is expected it will be started up before long.
