Drs. Jones, Hunt and Muller held a consultation Friday in the case of W, F. Rodgers, the man injured at the Central ,. from, of the New Blue Point Mining Company . THE OLD RELIABLE. The Providence Quartz Mino One of the Best in the State. Nevada City the blackest eye in the quartz mining Jine that it had ever received before. But of course the great est blow we ever experienced was the stopping of the hydrwulic mines. When the owners of the old Providence ceased working their mine even [the most enthusiastic believer in the district looked somnewhat.crestfallen, and ‘began to think that if the ‘told reliable,” ( by which name the mine was familiarly known )had -petered, surely there was not much hope for any other mine and it would be only a matter of a short. time when the beautiful Queen City .of the Sierras would be inhabited only by the wild beasts of the forest, or, in other words, it would be knocked into ‘‘smith. ereens’”’ as badly as the Meadow Lake district. The suspension of work at this mine had a bad effect generally upon the whole district. Mining speculators and capi-alists, when they learned that the principal mine in the district had given out before any great depth had been reached, very naturally concluded that this section was'a good place to keep away For a long time monied men bcould hardly be induced to talk about proposition to invest, notwithstanding them. Four or tive San Francisco gentlemen finally came tp and examined’ the mine with a view of purchasing, it, and they did so and placed Col. Carl’Davis, one of the-bestquartz miners-in, the State, “in charge.Regarding the, outlook as favorable they bought the mine and placed a large sum of money in bank for the purpose of developing the property. " There was much ‘dead work " to “do before anything else could be done. ° The inain shaft had to be retimbered in many places avd repairs were necessary. here works. At first employment was given to ‘J about a dozen men, which force was_ increased from. tijne. to. time, and teday. pay-roll. ‘They have erected the finest chlorination works in the State, which are in full operation, working all the sulphurets that come from the mine. Thirty stamps are kept running night -}and-day-and-there is ore enough in sight to keep the mill going for an indefinite’ period, There ‘are two ledges in the mine, one being in slate, the other in. yranite, both of which are looking well, The history of the Providetice mine is similar to that of othr: mines in this county, and shows that mines are often considered worked out when in reality their development has only. just begun, The old theory that gold quartz ledges do not extend beyoud certain depths has been exploded, and by the use of improved methods, economical and skillful management, many other mines that have been closed down could be reopened and successfully operated. The Transcript received a letter last evening from San Francisco stating that two of the leading men of the company from Nevada City to Grass Valley and Marysville, would arrive in Nevada City on Sunday next. They will come here to more thoroughly investigate and lay their plans for the great work. Our informant did not give the names of the parties, but they will be here and very soon our people will be fully informed as to what is to be done. é We learn from reliable authority that the promoters of the enterprise had
strong hopes that the storage system, which had been introduced on. electricrailroads in Europe and in the Eastern States, would prove a success, as the road could then be built and operated at much less expense than by overhead wires. As it unquestionably will be a long time before the storage system can be used successfully, in all probability the proposed road will be operated by the overhead or trolley system. In the event of the completion of the Tregidgo electric power works electricity could be supplied from that source, or’ the comPany could procure water power and put up a large generating plant of their own, : The projectors of the read are satisfied that it will prove a paying enterprise,: but before any work is done upon it they will fully consider the feasibility of the different plans that have been prdéposed, with the view of adopting the most practical. When once the work of to build the road and have it in. operation, as there is comparatively little grading to be done for an electric road.
