WHAT 4 CORRESPONDENT
Has to Say About Lou Beauchamp's Lecture
Last Evening.
Mr. Eprron: If the words spoken
last evening by Lou Beauchamp could
be printed and placed in the hand ofevery
young woman in Nevada City it would
do her good for life.
He asked our dear girls not to place
toe low a price upon their companionship,
to at least think as much of themselves
as the young men did.
Would any young man take the arm
ofa girl who smoked cigarettes, hung
about saloons and used profane language,
and enter a public hall. No indeed, but
our girls accept the society of young men
addicted to just such habits.
The speaker gave a scathing rebuke to
the indifference of the men in Nevada
City who'were afraid to hear a temperance lecturé, for fear of antagonizing those
wha deal in legalized death. One wants
votes, another wants to sell goods, so
they keep on the side of the liquor seller.
“To license a man to sell whiskey and
then arrest the drunkard, is: as unreason
. able as it would be to license a man to
give the itch and then arrest a fellow for
scratching.” :
» This evening the lecture will be one
entitled ‘‘Sunshine or How to Make Home
Happy” the news papers have called it
«<Qne Hundred Laughs in One Hundred
Minutes.” It has been given in all the
large cities in the East.
An admission fee of twenty-five cents
ents will be charged for adults, ten cents
for children. It is impossible to gise an
idea of the pleasure and satisfaction one
feels in hearing this gifted man.
As he is a newspaper man, conn
is modest, 80 to my words of praise I'l
enly add, you were right Mr. Editor, he
is a brick. He won’tget very well gilded

To Slay or to be Slain Which ?
To attack the dragon of disease and
annihilate him before his deadly talons
grow, or to allow. him to attain dangerous maturity and destroy us-—that is the
question of parasnount importance to all
afflicted with organic ailments. Among
these, disorders of the kidneys and bladder are of the fatal order if unrestrained
atthe outset. Their growth is rapid,
their culmination death. Bright’s disease, ordinary nephritis, diabetes, catarrh
of the bladder, gravel, suppression of the
secretion, cannot be tam with or
i safely. Hostetter’s Stomach
Bitters is a superb depurative tonic, givng the due impulse, without excitation
to the renal organs, besides strengthening
and regulating them in common with the
rest of the system. It infuses, too, vigor
and regularity into the stomach, bowels
and liver, successfully counteracts malaria
and rheumatism, and isa pre-eminently
fine tonic for the aged, the enfeebled and
the convalescent.

‘What makes some men the soul of
honor?” asked the story teller. ‘Every
one of us Kas had some experience in
life to prove to us that there are men of
impeachable honor. I think the
most honorable geritleman whom I ever
met wasa man of absolutely infernal
luck. I first saw him ina frontier town.
He had been a cowboy, but he had got
caught in a terrible winter back on the
plains, and at the time . first saw him
he was only a wreck of a man, with legs
misshapen and weak, and eyes that were
nearly blind. He seemed to be just
clinging to life in that little Colorado
town, doing what little he could in barrooms or going slow errands, until fate
should be kind enough to take him
away from his misery.
