Master in Chancery Houghton

Bloomfield Sunday tosatisfy themselves by personal inspection that
the Sawyer injunction was being

as to what condition they found
things in, but the decision in the

An Office Seeking a Candidate.
There is a rapidly growing impression Republicans in these
parts that Nevada county has just
~the-sort of'a man that theif party
wants as a standard-bearer if it
proposes to win-in the State fight
to be made-fext Fall. Aspirants
for the~gubernatorial nomination
areas plenty on our side of the
‘house -as differences of opinion
upon vital questions are on’ the
other side, but of all the gentlemen yet mentioned in that connection none more completely fills the
bill than does Hon. Edward Coleman, of Grass Valley. A good
many of the li ve Republicans have
been talking very favorably of him
in this connection for some time
past, but we do not think they
have as yet said anything concerning it to the one: most interested.
There is time enough to see Mr.
Coleman, however, and tell him
that his party wants to place him
in a position where his splendid
qualities of head and heart will be
employed not only for the benefit
of the few, but for the many.
A New Society.
Some of the doctors of this city
and Grass Valley, aided and abetted by all the newspaper men and
a limited number of other persons
who have nothing to-do and get
princely pay for doing it, are going to fill a long-felt want by starting a Growlers’ Society. Every
person possessing a grievance
(real or fancied) will be eligible to
membership. Editor Shoeraaker
of the Tidings, who has kept himself hoarse for several weeks past
jawing because he cannot get his
proposed debating society started,
will probably be made President
of the Growlers. Dr.S. M. Harris
is acting under dispensation as
Medical Examiner for the Club,
and all applications for membership must be left with him.
Pythian Parade.
Tonight, at 8 o’clock, Mountain
Division, U. R. K. of P., and their
new brass band of fifteen members will have a street parade in
full uniform. A Division meeting
will be held in Pythian Castle immediately after the parade, and at
the conclusion of this meeting the
Rank and members of Milo,Olympic and Spartan Lodges will assemble at the Union Hotel and
have supper. Every Knight of
Pythias will be welcome at the
banquet and exercises.
Heavy Freight Shipments.
Immense quantities of freight
for this city and the upper country continue to arrive here daily.
Day before -yesterday Freight
Agent Parker sent sixteen teams
over Purdon’s crossing and four
over Edwards’, all of them carrying 130,000 pounds of supplies con
signed to merchants, mines, etc.,

Reception to Mr. Priddy.
A private letter from Hollister
says that Rev. W. B. Priddy, formerly of this city, was last week
tendered a reception and dunation
party by the people of that place
to which he recently went to .assume the pasturate of the MethodistChurch. The party was largely attended and in every way a
very pleasant affair: ~The congregation is larger than the Hollister
Church has enjoyed before for
several years, and pastor and people get along together most harmoniously.

Faults That Need Correcting.
The Record-Union says: Already it is developing that the immediate delivery system is badly
proportioned. It limits messengers $30 per month—an outrageously low wage—and _ yet in San
Francisco the income from it is
thus far four times the salary of
the> men. It is not immediate,
because there are*times when no
messengers are in; it is not general, because it operates through
the central Postoffice mainly, and
thus cuts off many people from its
use; it necessitates two stamps,
where one should have been provided ; it turns quiet people out of
bed at unseasonable hours of night
to satisfy the whim or taste of the
sender of a letter. It:is full of errors and absurdities,“and needs a
great deal of amending.
