Want te Remove Their Plant.
MarysviLie, June 21—The Eureka
Lake and Mining Company, which
car:ied on hydraulic mining several
years ago at Columbia Hill, made application to Judge Keyser this afternoon to be permitted to remove 4,000
fect of fitime and clean up the sluice,
as large quantities of gold and quick-. silver were deposited, from which it is
expected $15,000 will be realized.
In thelapplication it is claimed that
the removing of the flame would _pre_vent-thegreater portion of 100,009
yards of debris being emptied every
~ winter intothe Yuba river. ©
R.' McMurray said the company had
ne intention to violate the law, as it
had ceased mining, and asked permissionto make money and protect the
valley. = :
Tbe motion was granted with the!
understanding that the work is to be
done under the inspection of the autidebris officers and at the risk ofthe
company in vio'ating the injunction
already in force against the mine.
McMurray’s Bia Refused.
A. G. Hawes, guardian of Elizabeth
C. Peltret, who has been an inmate of
the asylum at Nape for several years,
reported to Judge Coffey of San Francisco Friday that he had ‘accepted? a
bid from R. McMurray of this county
of $12,000 for forty acres of the BuriBuri Rancho, on the San Bruno road.
An expert testified that the property
is worth $15,600, and hid that amount
for it. Peter Iler raised the bid to
$15,840, and the sale was confirmed
_ to him at that figure by the court.
It is said that he representsa company
which will establish stock-yards upon
the land. The location is close to the
waters ofthe bay, about seventcen
miles from San Francisco, and within
a few ‘miles of San Mateo.
Meadow Lake Mining District.
The Sierra City Tribune says: Parties
here who are interested in Meadow
Lake (Nevada county) mines report
that the snow will not be off up there
before the first of August. Considerable work was done there last season.
The Keystone Mg. Co., composed of
Sacramento and San Francisco parties,
had miners . running thei: tunnel
ahead on contract during the winter.
A number of practical miners of this
place who have heen operating up in
that district have great faith in the
mines there and are confident that
they will ullimately, be successfully
worked. The gold is undoubtedly
there they say and one of these days
the genius of man will discover a way
to save it.
Avother Fee! Biuff.
A Sacramento dispatch reads as
followe: ‘‘It has leaked out that
George Obleyer of Sutter county had
a conference to-day with the members
of the Board of Supervisors of this
county concerning bydraulic mining
operations on the tributaries of the
” rivers and the inability of the Federal
courts to enforce the injunc‘ions
against the operators. It is said that
the matter of appealing to the Secretary of War for troops to enforce the
the orders of the courts was seriously
considered and advocated. Obleyer
went to San Francisco this evening.”

“So, in order to be graceful in the disposal of your hands, it is only necessary
to get rid of consciousness about them,
and you may accomplish this to a surprising extent by a very simple gymnastic process. Letthem hang limply and

_ A Relic of Territorial Days.
When Noah McNaught was at Hamil‘tor he was shown a wagon wheel which
was found buried high up on the mountain side and covered with two. feet of
earth, From appearances it had been
there sixty years. The tire was wide,
of intersection with the felloes. The
hub and felloes were tolerably well preserved. The rootof a tree as large as a
man’s body had grown through and
broken out three spokes. There was no
mark in the dense forest indicating that
a wagon road had ‘ever existed in that
neighborhood. In accounting for how
this wheel could ever have gotten there,
an Indian tradition recites that a government party took its wagons to pieces and
packed them on the backs of mules, that
one mule bearing this wheel on its back
was ipitated from the mountain side
and killed by the fall, leaving the wheel
to be covered by the earth as the surface
of the mountain became invaded. —
