Leeking after Hydraulic Miners.
Sacramento, June 24.—Robert T. Devlin, special counsel for this county in
suits “against the hydraulic mines has
caused to be served injunctions on two
mines operating at Gold Run. Other
injunctions in that vicinity, will follow
and the suite will be vigorously pushed,
Mr. Devlin’s jurisdiction extends only
over such mines as are throwing debris the better.

South forksand in the Cosumnes river.
As to the latter stream no complaint is
made, but on the American river snch
mines as are operating will be compelled
tostop as soon as the law officers can
reach them. Sacramento is not called

ow it Feels to Have a Lion Bite Fou.
Mr. Inyerarity, a member of the Bombay bar, says: ‘So large an animal as a
lion coming at full speed against you of
course knocks you off your legs. ‘The
claws and teeth entering the flesh do
not hurt so much as you would think.
The only really painful part of the business is the squeeze given by the jaws on
the bone. I felt none of the dreamy
stupor Livingstone describes, but on the
contrary felt as usual. 1 adopted the
course of lying quite still, which . believe is the best thing one can do, as
you are yiite helpless with a heavy animal on you, and they. are inclined to
make grabs at everything that moves,
and the fewer bites you can get off with
“All the wounds are centers of inflammation and blood poisoning, and the
more you get the less chance you have.
The power of the liou’s jaws may be inferred from the fact that the lioness
that seized me, although it had a
broken jaw, scored deep grooves in the
barrels of my rifle with her teeth. Some
claw wounds were! mere scratches,
which . attribute to the fact that they
clutch at the surface of your coat, think. ing it is all solid underneath, and so
reach the flesh ‘pretty late. {n fact, my
coat was torn in some places without Advertised Letters.

is not room enough to even mention
briefly the scores of resorts throughout
California.
la Mountains we have between
Shasta on the north and San Jacinto on
the south the myriad peaks of the Sierras
and the Coast Range.
In Lakes there are scores, from the
small glacier cups to the great inland
seas of Tahoe, Clear and Tulare.
In Mineral prings we have hundreds that cure all sorts of ailments.
In Seaside Resorts there are acattered along the coast at convenient intervals enough salt-bathing and sr pe Pe
establishments to accommodate all inlan:
leisure seekers. i
There is therefore no lack of variety,
and no excuse for the dweller by the :ea
in not making a tour into the mountain,
or the dweller in the inland valleys and
mountains in not seeking a. journey to
the sea.
The sum total of these remarks is that
