Spicndid Results From Crushing the. Grave}, For about a month past each tenth load of gravel coming of the Harmony has been put aside with a view to practically determining as to whether the bulk of the goldin the dirt was being saved by the washing: process alone. A large quantity of the gravel thus saved has just been crushed at J.C. Locklin’s mill and it yielded $6.07 ,« ton, whereas only about two dollirsa ton has been realized from washing alone. There are now several thonsand tons of tailings at the mine, and it is believed that with a mill, on the property the tilings can be crush; ed at a cost of not more than 40 cents aton. The gravel isof quartz formation, hence the necessity for crushing it. Tt is anticipated that the company will be out of debt by tth@ end of this month.. Observations of a Weeks Events, WasinnGron, June f, 1890, Eprror Transcrrpt—The * President was eo interested in preventing Secretary Blaine fiom unnecessarily worrying himself over the. business-of the State Department that he sent Representative Hitt of Ilinois, a close personal friend of both himselfand Mr. Blaine, to New York to tell Mr. Blaine that there was nothing here which required his personal attention, and to persuade him to take a long rest before again resuming his arduous duties, and he is much pleased at the success which Mr. Hitt met with, and alsg: with the good news he brouglit of Mr. Blaine’s condition. Mr. Hitt told the President that Mr. ° Blaine only needed a rest to be all right, and ie-has promised to take that. There are a lot of mad Democrats in the town.A scheme which has for sometime been whispered among the faithful of that party has been ex posed, and its friéfida fear defeated by a senrational publication. The article in question sét forth the fact that the national a*sociation clubs, the executive committee of which was at the timein session ia New . Ii is well known (hat such a movement man-, aged by the-shrewdest mén ii the Democratic party, has been quietly going on since early last winter, and that ifs seipsgace did-notwish-it ta yet out because they were not fully prepared’ to antagonize the Hill and Claveland-psople, The original programine, as outlined by a prominent Democrat who was—very--mneh-disgusted at the publicition named, was «. to allow the Cleveland and Hill men to carry their fight to such an extent. as to make the nominition of either impossible avd then to spring the name of Gorman backed by the niachinery of the Democratic clubs, on the party as that of a man whose nominatien would be acceptable to all wings of the party. After more thena week of rainy, disagreeable weather the 80th was ushered in with glorious sugshine, and not a soldier’s grave was left undecorated, and Arlington cemetary never looked more beautiful. It seems. to be the general opinion here that England will eventually agree to Secretary Blaine’s proposition fora closed season in Behring’s Sea this year; but there are afew who believe that it is already too late to stop the killing of seals this season, and some think that Lord Salisbury, in going to Parliament for authority to agree to Mr. Blaine’s proposition, is only intentionally killing time so as to make it too late to interfere with the Canadian vessels which «re: already illegally taking seals. All aduit that it will be extremely difficult, even if both countries earnestly try, to prevent illegal sealing, after waiting uatil so late in the season. It is semi-etlicially announced that Hon.
