A ROUGH TRIP.
A Sowshoer’s Visit to Meadow Lake and
the Narrow Escape He Had.

Three or four weeks ago George Clark
of North. Bloomfield started out for
Mead«w Lake, his object being to see if
his nonse-and-one or _ two other buildings
used inthe eummér tiine by friends of
his, were in ‘need of being cleared: of
snow. Only an experienced snowshoer and
mountaineer would have had the nerve
to. undertake such a journey all alone;
but Clark knows the country like a book,
day or night, summer or winter, There
was‘snow nearly the entire distance, in
some places over twenty feet deep, and
it was not the sort of snow which snowshoers like; in fact Clark found it very
hard work to travel in it. He could not
make his usual speed. The weather was
cold and raw and the exe: tion required
to keep on moving told on his strength
to an alarming degree. But he kept up
courage and pressed on, not allowing
himself only the shortest rests, for fear
of being overcome and perishing in the
snow,

The Tidings says since the suit was

claim has passed into the hands ofa corporation known as the South Idaho

company is now erecting substantial
hoisting works upon the claim and is also
engaged in sinking a double compartment

For Sacramento to Retain the State —Capitel at That Place.
A dispatch from Sacramento yesterday
says:
The people are still scheming te get
their capital back, But no one seems
to knew what they propose to de, or for
that matter, what they can do. The
resolutions proposing the constitutional
amendment by which the capital will be
removed if the people consent, have been
signed by —.cutenant-Governor Reddick,
as President of the Senate, and by
Speaker ‘touid of the Assembly, and
have bec : nanded into the custody of
the Secr:: .-y of State, who has receipted
for thes: The matter is thus out
of the hands ef the Legislature.
A communication was received from
the Mayor and Common Council inviting
the Legislature to visit San Jose tomorrow. The invitation was accepted.
Elabor.te preparations are being made
to receive the visiting Legislators tomorrow, and San Jose will give them a welcome. that they will remember as long as
they live.
All sorts of dire calamity is threatened the Bee, but the excitement will all
die out ina short time, and the people
of that town will soon be yelling, ‘you

Their Friends, the Spies.
The Iowa Hill miners are’ said to be
regretting the prospect of losing the visit
of the anti-debris spies, because of the
Caminetti bill becoming a law, as they
are generally well provided with funds,
and not averse to a game of ‘‘draw” in
which the Iowa Hillers are proficients,
as the valley men have often found out

in malarial breeding tropical regions, in
