GETTING FRIGHTENED, The San Francisco Anarchists Are Doing a Cireat Deal of Blowing, The Transceret’s San Francisco correspondent telegraphs us this afternoon that the anarchists in that city threaten to blow up the New City Hall tomorrow, The New Proprietor, James Northway has taken possession of the Union Hotel, having purchased the furniture and leased the Iuildiug. Mr. Northway has been here but a comparat vely short time, and yet he has become well acquainted with our people and they with him. It is needless tu say, for it goes without siying, that heis hignly esteemed, and everybody will soon tind out that he possesses the qualification of knowing how to rua a hotel. The Unioa -has always been ranked among the best hotelsin the State, and while under the management of Mrs. Naffziger 1ta reputation was fully sustiinel. The many friends of Mr. Northway will wish him all the gool luck imagiuable in his new undertaking. NA SAARINEN anaes Am SPAN Give Them a Wide Berth. Clothes drummers, shirt dram‘uers, shoe drummers, picture druniners aud numerous. other kind of bummers are constantly infesting this city, There is always a class of people in every community that encourage that class of duffers, aud Nevada Jiby is no exeuption tu the rule, Most of those who deal with these tellows usually get swindled, and our advice is to give them a wide berth: If you cannot get rid of them in any other way set your dog on. them—if you have one that is savage. Dora Meyer's Life. Examiner: There was laid to reat Monday at the Home of Peace Cemetery in San Mateo the remains of a woman who was well known in Jewish social and benevolent circles, and who died un: der singular circumstances. Ten days ago Mrs. Dora Meyer, wife of Moses Meyer, a retired capitalist whe lived ina large house at 1317 Golden Gate avenue, was in the garden plucking flowers for her boudoir, in which task she was assisted by one of her daughters. While engagéd with a small pair of scissors in cutting eff some rosebuds which struck her fangy her atteution was for a moment attracted to a rapidly, passing vehicle and the first thing she knew a sharp thorn pierced the middle tinger of her left hand and broke off. An exclamation of pain and surprise brought he: daughter aud husband, who wasin another part of the garden, to her assi tance, and the old gentleman promptly, as he thought, settled ‘the matter by taking a brass pin from his vest and removing the thorn, which was so deeply imbedded in the flesh, but in so doing a little blood was drawn. No further attention was paid to the matter beyond ‘a mere reference at ‘the dinnér-table that day, until-on the third day Mrs. Meyer's left hand and arm began te swell, and on the fourth her pain was so intense thatit was found necessary to call in the family physician, Dr, Morse, who at once discovered symptoms of serious blood poisoning, which he undertook to combat by tie best methods known to the medical profession. His efforts, however, were in vain, and on Friday, so alarming had the symptoms grown, that after consultation with otbers pliysicians it was decided to am putate the armas the only poasilile means of saving Mrs. Meyer's life. The shock, however, was too great, and on Saturday she died. The saddest feature of the case is that Mr, Meyer blamed himself for using a brass pin to extract the thorn instead of a steel needle. When told that amputation might be necessary he stubbornly refased his‘conseut, although it was plain te the other members of the family that it was the only hope left, and he is yet in ignorance of the fact that the surgical operation was performed, At the time the suggestion was made to hin that amputation might be necessary to save his wife's lite he fainted and-would-tisten to no suggestion whatever that such an act might bé necessary. Blood poisoning resulting from the vevatching of brass is not as uncommonas skeptics are apt to believe, as there. are three cayes known to the doctors within the past year where it has occmred in this city and death resulted, and in each case the patient was an iadividual iu robust health, Mrs. Meyer was a woman of fine physique and-ingulaily iree from ailments, She was the mother of eight childvea, all of whom survive her and the majority of whom are grown up. Mrs, Meyer was ihe mother of Mrs. A. Blumenthal of this city. a ee 0 The World Enriched.
