Ohleyer Has Returned.
The Sutter Farmer says George Ohleyer has returned from Washington,
where he went as a representative of the
securing appropriations for the improvement of the Sacramento river and its
tributaries. He thinks favorable action
will be taken by Congress on these appropriations, as they are not excessive.
“With reference to the mining bill,”
says the Farmer, “‘the gentlenian is not
so sanguine. The question involved in
this kind of legislation being entirely new
and without precedent, Mr. Ohleyer
thinks Congress will move slowly in the
matter: It is evident that if this kind
of legislation is pressed it will result in a
more thorough investigation of the debris
question than has ever yet . been had,
with a result we apprehend entirely different from what is expected by the men
whe are laboring to have hydraulic mining rehabilitated.”
