The “Transcript” Reporter Interviews Thred Nevada City Chinamen. —— The Geary Act having been declared constitutional by the Supreme Court, the Transcrirr reporter visited three Chinese houses to ascertain their “ feelinks” in relation to the matter. Leaving out the Chinese dialect, the interview with them was about as follows : Reperter—How many Chinamen are there in and “around Nevada City _who have not been registered ? : Chinamen—Bety; een 250 and 300. Keporter—Why did you not register ? Chinamen—Because we received notices every day from our San Francisco companies not to do so. Reporter—Well, what do yeu think, and what are you going to do about it now ? Chinamen—Don’t: Knew, except to wait and see what is going to be done. If we had not received orders to.the contrary we would all have registered. We think it will be a long time before te Chinamen jn the mountains will be molested, because the Government has not got money enough to pay paesage for the thousands who live in and around San Francisco, One of the Chinamen is of the opinion that Chiness mine owners are merchants, under the law, and will not be deported. He says if that be so there will be. but few of their number who come under the head of laborers, as the majority of them own in mineson the rivers. ‘‘Then,” he said, ‘the men who keep shops are te be added to that number, and there will be but few around here who can_ bi shipped to their eld homes.” here are not in the least alarmed abeut the Geary Act,.and they act and talk as though they thought it was a good joke on somebody. The Small Claims are Being Enjoined ‘by the Anti Debris Mea. As the big hydraulic mines in the upper portion ef the State are being put in order for work under the provisions of the Caminetti Act, the Anti-Debris Association are turning their attention to small claims in Nevada, Sierra and Plumas counties, says the Mining and Scientific Press, in enjoining many which were. being worked on asmall scale. There are many of these little claims, owned by individuals, the work which does little or no harm; still they are be— ing enjoined. So, for the present, at least, the Anti-Debris Association people are getting the advantage under the operation of the law. The miners turn will come, however,’ and only a lit le patience is needed. When the Government Commission is organized a license to mine may be procured readily in most of these instances, and then operations may be resumed without reference to the Anti-Debris Association or — ‘‘spies.”’ Where there are a number of these ‘smaller mines draining into ene canyon ur Stream, a single dam, to be paid for juintly; will give all a chance to work. While, therefore, injunctions maybe pretty thick just now, they will in time be dissolved and the mines permitted to work, A license from the Government /Commissiononce secured will relieve the miners from future persecution, compliance with the law being adhered to.
