What is Being Dono in the Way . of Mining at Hunt's Hill Some very good paying gravel is being taken out at the Ah Sing Mining Co.'s mine, which“lies adjacent to A. G. Turner's claim, known as the Eastern and Maine mine. There are some sixteen coolies who own this mine, and dur_ing the last five years a great deal of gold thas been extracted and but a very small part of it circulated this side the Celestial soil. . After. a’ three months’ run their long toms yielded the sum of about five ‘thousand dollars, which was far above all expenses. .The mine was purchased abeut twelve years ago for eight thousand five. hundred dollars by this Chinese Company, and since then many thousand dollars have been unearthed. The mine adjoining, owned by A. G. Turner, is located on the same lead and the prospects at present bid fair to success. The gravel is very hard at present and requires to be crushed. The. gravel extracted by the Chinese requires no crushing and is simply shoveled into boxes. Mr. Turner is in hopes -of soon finding this same quality of gravel _in his own mine, and if he does there can be no doubt ag to its worth. ‘The mill that he has erected affords him a good opportunity to prospect the dirt as it is‘ taken out. At present the bedrock is pitching off rapidly, but the drifts are being run on a level grade with the hopes of soon finding the rock rising again. . _ Most all the good paying greund in this locality has been on high bedrock. There is goltin-all the dirt, however; which is @nencouragement topress on.——May-_ good fortune attend oar mining adventurers. Dross indeed. While we can none of us claim a total exemption from that greatest of all ills to which flesh is heir—ill health, we may do much te lessen the chances of incurring it, and this not alone by the adoption of such sanitary measures as are to be found in daily exercise, regular hours, prudence in eating and drinking, and a wholesome diet, but also by resorting to judicious preventive medication when the system is threatened by unhealthful influences.
‘For instance, residents or sojourners in malarious localities should use Hostetter’s Stomach,Bitters asa defense against chills and fever, xnd persons who incur much out-of-door exposure should employ it as a safeguard against rheumatism. Travelers in the tropics find it invalual also as a means of arresting liver complaint and constipation, and counteractng the debilitating intluence of a torrid climate. . By this time next week the town will have most of its bright and showy attire on. People are getting their plans into shape so that they will know what they are going to do, and thus aveid delay. Some of the decorations, we are informed, will be quite elaborate. The material received from the East by Milo Lodge, and which is new on sale “at Gaylord’s store, is especially intended for the purpose, being the regular K. of P. decora— tions such as are used in the large cities. The prices asked are low and just about cover the cost of getting them here, the idea,of the committee being to get everybody to decerate. If you have not purchased or selected. your decorations yet, go to the above place and procure them, as the demand is increasing and: you may get left.
