BROWN & CALKINS, Proprietors. pT THURSDAY EV’NG NOV. 3, 92. = Gaining Votes Every Day. A well-known citizen of Rough and Ready township while in town this week said that when Sherman W. Marsh was first nominated for County Clerk by the Republicans he didn’t think that youtg man had the ghost of a show for election. “But,” he added, ‘‘that-was because I didn’t know him then. He came down among us farmers and it has beep a caution to see how he makes friends and supporters of us. There is a frank manliness about him ‘that takes with every one of us. Those of us who -were luke. warm about him have become enthusiastic, and those of us who were against him have been won over by the dozens. I firmly believe now he will be elected aid promise you that Rough and Ready township will do her part towards swelling his majority. LookjWell to Your Ballot. At the mock election in. Yuba City last Saturday sixty-five votes were cast, of which number five would have been thrown out ata legal election:. Similar elections have been held in nearly every precinct of the county and of the total number of ballots cast, the Marysville Democrat is informed that’in the neigh" . borhood of 100 were voted wrong. © This seems to imply that the'voters have not given the new system of voting the attention it demand. ee Meetings This Week. Grimes, « LEADING CLOFHIER, Corner Broad and Pine Streets, Nevada City losing Out Sale Is still in progress and the people of Neveada City and surrounding country are coming in big numbers to take advantage of it. Everything inthe store HAS TO BE DISPOSED OF by January tst, 1993, as I will then quit business here after a successful career of twenty years. And now a few words, fellow citizens, which it will be worth your while to read and think over. The goods in my store are new in styles, fresh in makeup and of the very best quality. They were bought for this market and tqgmeet the wants of our own people. . never would, and will not now, carry shoddy ends and odds, but have always made it a’ point ‘to offer for sale omy the BEST OF EVERYTHING to be-had. Every person who comes to my store to trade therefore gets a dollar’s worth of goods for one hundred cents, and no one who ever traded with me will say to the contrary. If I had not done business in this way I could not have continued to-have a large trade in Nevada county y for so many years. Is not that-true ? Storekeepers have come and have gone and have come igain, while . have continued here right along doing business in a business-like way. All this time I have maintained my credit with the wholesalers by-paying for what I got, and have maintained the confidence of my customers by giving them just what they paid for MY PRICES HAVE BEEN THE VERY LOWEST CONSISTENT WITH SQUARE METHODS AND GOOD GOODS, and no competitor who carried on his business in the samé@ way ever did or ever could undersell me. Any assortment of poorly made goods, manufactured from flimsy stuff and out-of-date in pattern, is not now and never was in competition with the superb line I carry. The people generally understand this pretty well. «and now in conglusion I desire to say again that everything in my store (bought fresh from the leading Eastern markets as my freight bills will show and the railroad people will tell you) is being Sold At a Sacrifice For the simple reason, as 1 have told you before in my advertisements, that I dm going out of business here. and will have no more use for the goods after the close of this year. > I cordially invite all who want to obtain genuine bargains on really first-class MENS’ YO'\JTHS’ and BOYS CLOTHING, GENTLEMEN'S FURNISHING GOODS AND NECKWEAR, BOOTS, SHOES RUBBER GOODS, etc., to come. and post themselves as to my stock and prices before’purchasing elsewhere.
