Ve DE ass ta aa eee cad * friend in broadcloth. ‘Judge Hawiey is ceastidiaiinamaimeia ammemaien THE DAILY TRANSCRIPT. BROWN & CALKINS. Proprietors. et MONDAY! #W'NG OCT. 17. 92. _ JUDGE HAWLEY A First Cass and Mest Popular OM Time Nevada County Man. Carson Appeal: Phe Commercial Reeord of San Francisco has some good words to say for Hon. Thomas.P. Hawley, who used to reside in this county and who was Deputy County Clerk here in 1854 and 1856, and who was District Attorney . of Nevada county in 1863 and 1865. He is now United States District Judge. The senicr of The Evening Telegraph claims to have made Judge Hawley a good lawyer, for in 1856 said senior beat Hawley for County Clerk, and then he, Hawley, pitched in and studied for the legal profs TheC cial Record says of our old friend: “Jt falls to few to have the same warm friendship as is entertained for Judge Hawley:* And his best friends are those who have known him longest. The reason for this regard is found in his unasing, genial , and his consistent, straight forward character. He is the same approachable gentleman, the same true friend, he was in early times when he was beginning his career. Position and success have not changed him a particle, and this is appreciated. He oceupies independent rank today, but such and kindly man he was in the past, and his greeting is as cordial,,if not more so, to his friend in homespur as it is to his indeed an excellent type of the old-time Californian. He scorns pretense or display, and views his fellow man with kindly sympathy and a charity that is broad and liberal. Asa lawyer he ranks among our eminent men.” NOTICE.
