The ‘Abeidentat Death of Richard D. White. Richard Davis White, aged, nearly ninteen years and since 1848 a compositor in the Datty ‘TRANSvuRIPT office, met with an accidental deathy esterday while quail hunting. Athalf past four o’clock in the morning he had started out with his young brother John and John Campbell fora day’s sport, At half past three in the afternoon the accident. occurred. They’ were looking for quailalong the lava bed flat about half a.mile below the Banner schoolhouse and some three miles frum this city in a southeasterly direction. Richard and Campbell were walking side by side, John White being just ahead of them. Richard had his gun, which is a double-barreled muzzle-loader, on his shoulder, and brought it forward to carry it under his arm. Bysxome means the pin used in fastening the barrels to the stock had dropped out, and as the weapon was being brought down from the shoulder the two parts became detached. The barrels turned clear over-till the -muzzlespointed directly toward him and at that infstant the.tubes then struck the surface of the ground, Both charges were exploded. One load of shot just grazed -the stock of the gun, then passed in a compact forin into the left side of the body overthe heart. The left lung was _petietrated. The other load cut the stock in twain close to the hammers and many of the scattering shot entered his hands, face and body, John White immediately hastened to Brackett’s ranch near by and a young-#on of Mr, Brackett came to town ‘for assistance. John Campbell tore off: his own shirt ahd attempted to check the flow of blood. Richard remained conscious. ated apparently fully realized that the wound was mortal. A physician and others went out from town and.-the wounded young was removed to the old Pingree ranch where he died at 6:48, Later inthe eveiiing the body was brought to his‘homeon Piety Hiil, where he has been living with his widowed mother, three sisters and brother. . Jolin and Robert Cleave of thia.city are his uncles. The funeral will take place on Wednesday afternoon at-2 o’clock, from the Hpisecopal Church, and will be under the auspices of the Nevada Light Guard of which organization he was a private. Albert and Jeff Roberts, two brothers, living near the scene ‘of the train wreck that revently occurred two miles below Colfax, were arrested at Colfax Saturday for being concerned in the wrecking. They talked around town that they knew who the wreckers were, and Ben True, the railroad detective, took them to Sacramento. . They will be given a chance to tell who the wreckers were. They have been arrested more for talking than, as actual perpetrators: of the deed. They told other people about the wreck, but when questioned by dotectives knew nothing of the matter. It is claimed that the missing clawbar was in their possession when last seen. A press telegram sent from Sacramento Saturday evening says: The Roberts brothers upon their airival here were taken immediately to the. private offices of the company, where the conipany’s criminal lawyer, Charles T. This Time “He is Hiding in Sierra County. It is claimed that George Clark, late of Bloomfleld but now of most anywhere, has been seen again. As the reports go, on Saturday a ian named. When he got in a short distance hé was commanded by somebody inside to go away, and the command was emphasized by the click of a gun's hammer, Of course he left. Another report is that one day last week a resident of that section met and talked with Clark; that he asked the latter why he did not give himself up, as there was no proof ou which. to convict him of Galavotti’s murder; that Clark replied_he was afraid of being lynched anid said he would die before being captured, The fugitive is represented as having been armed with a gun. A man living in the neighborhood of the Golden Giant diggings reports that some. provisions were stolen from _ his cellar last week, and he thinks Clark did it, « A number of workmen at Cole & King’s mill started out yesterday to look for the fugitive, but the result of their chase is not yet known, Another man reports to the Sheriff that last week he saw Clark at Spenceville in’ ‘the lower part of this county and talked with him, —— Catarrh Can’t be Cured ‘With local appliances, as they cannot reach the seat of the disease.
