It Ie Destined to Become a Great Sammer Resort. It is becoming the general opinion, says the Carson Tribune, that before tive years shall have passed away the shores of Lake Tahoe will be dotted with cottages owned and inhabited during the season by, not people of San Francisco and neigtiboring towns, but by dwellers. of the Eastern States. who 1; +ravel, have become acquainte with us salubrious climate of our mountain lake, and instead of a few hundreds, thousands will make their summer home on Tahoe's shores. Should such prove the case there will be little use for hotels, as in every separa location stores would be built, and the annual visitors accommodated with all the necessaries of life. A change like this would cause a large influx to the lake every year, and instead of mere transient visits, those who visited the lake would remain the entire season, for the reason that by owning their dwellings, they could live at.one-tenth the expense a residence at the Tallac, or some other hotels, would cost them. It would be better for all parties, es. . pecially the owners of steam aud other vessels, and as a railroad is almost certain to be built to the lake from Truckee within a year, the facilities for travel will be so greatly increaséd that a; trip to Lake Tahoe will be entirély one of pleasure. Several purchases of land have already been made on the shores of that inland sea, and many a snug residence will be added tothe number already. there, before another winter's snow shall put an end to travel in that direction. By increasing the number of residences,—roads which are entirely closed during-the win. dreds will spend their winters there hunting bear and other wild animals. “In fact the days of Lake Tahoe's prosperity seem to-be dawning rather than, as often spoken of, on the wane. One peculiar feature connected with trout fishing here, which hasn’t been mentioned, and which must not be forgotten, is camp life. in no other part of the United States is out-of-door life so freely enjoyed as in California and Nevada. Even in the Sierras, just at this season, all the wellknown lakesides may be seen dotted with white tents by day, and illuminated with red camp fires at night ; and the same might be said of almost every accessible river and stream. A climate-which makes such a state of affairs possible is to be praised, even though the croaker croaks. And to much cannot be said in favor of this méthod of living in the mountains. Unfrequented waters may be reached, a natural aw easy existence led, and every good, instinct stimulated afresh. Then, too, it is economical ; and he is not by any means the poorest angler who has to keep a sharp watch on his pocket. It may seem exaggerated, but nevertheless the statement is made by a prominent firm of tent manufacturers in San Francisco, that during the present year it has rented more than two thousand tents tocampers. Add to this those who own outfits, and some idea may be formed of the army of tent dwellers in the Overland: 5?
