M. Mount, of San Francisco, to aw Appeal reporter ‘I happened to be there, and having witnessed thé execution «f the programme and partaken of the hospitality of the people, I en tell you truthfully that I would be willing to part with $500 of my worldly possessions and know that I had missed such a sight and that I could not see is again. ‘That may sound rash, but my silvered head w.ll soon be laid away and the competency of which I am_ possessed cannot follow and for such revelations as I was permitted to. witness myself or anyone else in my position could afford to be liberal. : “Just think of it! Why, there was a showing of California from the days before the famed "49 up to date, and the «triking features of the representations made were their realism. Enigrants, Indiaps, soldiers, pony express, battle, scalping, in fact everything that authen. tic history has given us, were revealed in such a realistic mannergas to make one think that the drama we gazed upon from the Camptonville bluff, as it unfolded itself in the gorge below, was actual, My regret, as wéll as the regret of the good people of Camptonville, is that more people were not there to appreciate the successful efforts of the enthusiastic people— pioneers as well as Native Sons. The people from the surrounding country began artiving early in the morning, aud shortly after dinner we heard citi, zens say that there were about 500 in town, The announced hour for the pre. sentation of the programme was 2 o’clock. Tt wasa little after this when the 400 people seated under a covering of pine trees just north of the hotel on the bluff overlooking the ravine below, saw a large emigrant train turn the corner from Meek’s store. This train, drawn by ten +turdy oxen, moved down the road and out into the open space below, in view of the auditors, The pitching of camp and preparations for the meal were gone ‘hrough with to the minutess detail, there being about fiftee in the party, They iad hardly finished when the clattering vf hoofs were heard on the side hill, and yore, dashed down, closely followed by ‘wored skins, who finally caught him und dragged him from his pony, threw aim to the ground and scalped him. The «ction was accomplished successfully and vo the hérror of many, who thought that che scalping was genuine. These Indiana disappeared and the wonders of the assemblage as to whether che poor rider was reaily hurt or not, gave place to a pulsation created by the appearance in the gorge, around the emigrants’ camp of a band of war-painted aborigines. The roar of musketry was thrilling and when the smoke had cleared away the auditors become aware that the poor emigrants had been killed. The Indians Were about moving away with their booty and scalps, when a detachment of soildiers put in an appearance. the engagement was brief and the Indians were again victorious, their slaughter iaking: the entire company, save the Captain, whom they burned at the stake, the buruing, through a little legerdermain, appearing to-be genuine, and causing exclamations of indignation to arise from the lips of those not posted. The Indians were executing the war dance when a pack train put in an appearance and with the craftiness of their race, they ambushed at once. A military :cout had o' served this and warned the pack train, while anoth r military company put inan appearance and drove the Indians out, getting them on the open ground, where all of the red devils were killed save two old ones and these were permitted to live in vtder to shew the Digger of the present. After this representation had concluded the auditors were shown the different stages of mining—the rocker, the long-tom and hydraulicking. Some blasting, in which there were about fifteen charges of dynamite used, and the discovery of a $700 nugget, were interesting features. The nugget was loaned by Mr. Nelson, The concluding feature waa the appearance of the anti-debris watchmen with the injunctions. Te watchmen were deluged with the muddy water fro n the pipes, but the order was finally obeyed and the nine closed. The concluding feature of the afternoon was an oration by Richard Belcher, whose words were well received. He dwelt upon the past, present and prospective in an eloquent speech of a half-nour's duration, being quite frequently interrupted by applause. The ball in the evening at Odd Fellows’ hall was so largely attended that it was not until early morning that dancing could be indulged in with ease, A supper was served at midnight and was enjoyed by fully 200 people. “ Mr. Mount says he never met a more liberal class of people, his money counting for nothing. He has been up looking at the Bald Mountain extension mine and expects to go that way again with a party of mining experts, bat when he does he proposes to own Camptonville instead of its controlling him. At this Late Day 8 Correspondent Sends the Transcript a Report. The home of Mrs. C, Austin of Willow Valley, was the scene of an unusually pretty wedding last Tuesday evening. The occasion being the marriage of her daughter, Nenia, to Richard Noell, Jr., son of Supervisor Noell. Nearly oue hundred guests were’ present Old and young were charmed with the novelty and picturesqueness ‘of the surroundings, On entering the driveway leading to the house, one caught a glimpse of fairy lights glistening here and there. among the trees, and ‘a nearer approach showed the whole garden to be a veritable bower. A crnvas walk lead from the gate tu tlie house, banked on either side with dark shrubbery from among which swinging lights glistened. On entering the house one felt as though that, too, had been transformed into a bower, so profuse were the decorations. Wallsand ceiling were festooned with long graceful ferns and Christmas greens and fluwers were every where. : When all had assembled, the soft strains of Mendelssohn’s wedding march, rendered by Miss. Edith Goyne, announced-the approach of the bridal party, who passing down the room grouped themselves under a canopy of pale pink from which hung a large herseshoe made of La France roses. After the impressive ceremony, which was performed by the Rev. Needham, of == AT THE THEATRE. A Good Company and an Attractive Repertoire, © Georgie Woodthorpe and her sterling theatrical troupe commenced a week's engagement here last evening, and it was clearly evident from the frequency of the demonstrations of approval ti at the audience appreciated the play (‘‘Among the Pinea’’) and the efforts of the performers. Pretty Miss Woodthorpe has lost none of the vivacity and power that male her so popular here on the occasion of her first appearance a few years ago with the “Sunny South” Company. Fred A. Cooper, famous the country over in: this' and other specialties, inimitably interpreted the part of a most comical China. man, Prank Cleaves, the leading man, was “Sleuth,” and although it is a ranting, roaring role he gave it so as to leave a very favorable impression as to his capabilities. Warren De Lano ia the leading comedian of the combination, aud he can, with: ut apparently trying to do it, talk and act in a way that creates a laugh every time. The support was indeed very good all through last night’s cast. Tonight there will be a big audience to wituess the production of the touching home-play of ‘Lord Fauntleroy,” which has such a fascination for the ladies and children, and is at the same time se esteemed by the sterner sex because there iso much in it to vividly remind most people of the halcyon days of their childhood. Little Georgie Cooper, one of the most Grass Valley, and the congratulati that followed, the newly wedded pair led the way and all adjourned to the supper room, and such a one as it was. Passing down the canvas walk fora few feet and turning to the right another walk led across an open space flooded with moonlight and descending a few steps one tound himself in a large pavilion literally made of spruce boughs and the walls and ceiling were formed of the feathery‘ follage of the Christmas tree through whose branches an occasional moonbeam fell, and canght a glimpse of a far away star. room groaning under the heavy weight of good things, and until midnight the guests made merry over the dainty collation. : Then the goodbys were said and good wishes were showered on the young couple, and through the moonlight the guests drove home delighted. Many handsome toilets were noticeavle among the lady guests, but limited space forbids a description. The bride was attired in a delicate shadevof pink china silk made en train and trimmed with dainty pearl edging. The bridal veil was caught in her hair with a coronet of white sweet peas aud maiden hair fern, and it fell in soft folds to the floor, She carried a bouquet of the same tlowers tied with long ends of pink ribbon, s Dr, C. W. Jones and Miss Frankie Jones acted as groomsman aud bridesmaid, The bridesmaid wore a pale accrue gown made en train aud carried a dainty white satin. slipper filled with roses-suspended from her arm Ly large satin streamers. The young couple will reside in Nevada City. The presents were numerous, valuable and useful, From the groom, the bride received a beautiful diamond ear ring set, and also a set of silver knives, forks and spoons,, L. 8.
