In another year thiere will be no woeden walks in the business part of Nevada City. The Busses running between this city and Grass Valley are crowded with passengers on every trip. The stock of goods in the Wolf store, on Main street, will be sold at_auction next Monday. As an advertising medium the Transorirt is second to no journal published in Northern-Central California. A company is being formed.to work tle tailings in Deer creek, below the rich quartz mines. ae ~Do not forget that the Richard Foote company will play at the Theater tonight. The charming Miss Plunkett will be there. If you know of any items that will interest anybody, just give them to our city reporter, Fred E. Brewn. The new iron fence around the Washington school house presents a very beautiful . appearance, Nafiziger’s, Grissell’s, Colley’s and Monroe’s meat markets would do credit to larg«r towns than Nevada City. Whien the electric railroad is built to Marysville the freight on goods will be very mate: ially reduced. The City Trustees are having the gutters . and.-sewers--areund--the--eity-placed-in*good+ order for winter. Frank Nilon’s new house is going to be a beauty. Lots of good carpenters at work on. it. The Truckee ‘Republican says there is no gambling going on in that town only for the reason that there is no money toe gamble on? Is the lower part of Broad street to. be macadamized before the fall rains start in? Echo answers, quein sabe, Several new heuses have been erected recently, and now the question that is agitat-. ° ing the public mind is thia: Will there be any house—warmings ? One of our merchants informed us today that he had been in business for eleven years and thatduring the past month he had done more businéss than he hai ,during any three months during that period. That speaks well for the town, Fhe more pay days the~less~money~ there seems to be in circulation, Everybody seems to be hoarding coin fora rainy day. rainy day will come very soon. Work is progressing finely on Manzanita ravine. In ashort time teams will be able to cross from the Catholic church to Aristocracy Hill, That road has been talked of by. City Trustees for the past twenty-five years, and it remained for the present live Board to do the job, A great mapy quartz mines in Sierra county have changed hands recently, They will be worked on an extensive scale. That means more business for Nevada City, Sierra county's prosperity is Nevada City’s prosperity, this being the business center fer that section. Among the people generally there is a disposition to have the front of their premises, on thestreet, present a clean appearance. There is an exception to this rule, however. Some people prefer dirt and filth, as is manifeated ina number of places around town, The Sunset} Telephone Company is se~ verely censured by our people fornot complying with their contract. It is generally believed that they put up the line between thiscity and Grass Valley to keep out an opposition company. The way they have it now arrange d is worse than no line at all. Preparations for the new electric railroad between this city and Marysville are prey gressing slowly but surely. By the last of this month something tangible will be done in regard to the matter. Aswe have stated a number of times—that road will be built. The Odin mine is looking splendid. Th ey are running a tunnel, and om Monday or Tuesday next will commence cross-cutting. The gravel they are now taking out pays over $2 per car load. Where they are working the channel is over one hundred feet wide on one side, and as far as they can tell now is about seventy feet on world but that the Odin in time will be one of the very best gravel mines i this dis. trict. A young man who left Nevada City t wenty-five years ago returned on Monday last, Up to yesterday hehad been trying to get his bearings, and has net got them yet, for he says Nevada City bears no resemblance to that which seemed to be impressed upon his mind before coming here. Ne wonder. The town has improved’ so much and so many changes have been made, except here and there, that no one would recognize the plave if they had been absent that length of time, A gentleman who arrived here yesterday from San Francisco informs the Transcript . reporter that James L. Fleod and John W. Mackey, the Comstock bonanza kings, will send one of their hest mining experts here the last of this menth to examine two mines in the Nevada City mining district, with a view of purchasiug them, We do not know what mines are referred to, but do hope the expert's opinion will be favorable, for such men as Floed and Mackey are very desirsble men to have in a mining county, * It is hoped that that particular kind of . the other side.
