1A BIG KAOLIN BED.
The Wolf Creek Deposit—The Proposed Pottery.
Union : John H. Nichols, who has
been prospecting during the past season
at Pine mountain, on lower Wolf creek,
in qtiaftz; has found 2 bed of kaolin,
which is over one hundred feet in depth.
Not imtich prospectifig haa been done in
it, lat sufficient to show thatit is largely
free from impurities, while 4, ion:.of
it 1s maxed with sand. The indicate that the clay is omé hun acres in
extent. Inmone part a quartz, vein’ is
toand of low. gr < quarts, but~ite lange
for working, as it has been penetrated
seven feet and not cut through. A pe
culiarity of this vein as far as prospected
is that it heenoenclosing walls of country rock, but is closed in on both sides
with kaolin. It is contemplated to put
up a battery this winter to prospect the
quartz yein, The statenient that has
been publighed that it is the intention to
establish a pottery on the ground to work
the kaolin is not correct, the plan in presduit contemplation being to establish the
pottery in Grass Valley, and haul the
clay here; the distance being ten miles.
But the plan is as yet indefinite, and has
not assumed form, and no immediate
working of the kaolin is contemplated.
