OUR SECTION.
A Few Indacements Which Nevata Couuty
Offers to Settlers.
During the past few weeks the TRANfrom as many_different States asking for
the information herein contained, and to
save letter writing is the reason for this
publication: =
First--Large areas of fertile lands, ge:
eured by Government patent, can be ,purebased at such reasonable figures that a few
hundred dollars is sufficient to pay for a4
small farm.
Second—The standard fruits grown in
this county are the finest of their varieties
‘ grown in the world, They are of a superior
flavor and have a firmness of texture that
gives them better shipping and keeping
qualities than those grown at lower alti
tudes, and they fiud a ready market at remunerative prices.
Third—The long summers permit of the
retation of crops, and the raising of two and
even thrée different. crops from the same
laud in a single season.
Fourth—There is a ready market for all
farm products at good prices.
Fifth—There are excellent means of transpertation, the railway penetrating the central portion of the county. ~
Sixth—There is an‘abundance of timber.
* Seventh—There is an inexhaustible suppay of pure water, both for irrigating and
demestic purposes. ;
Mighth—The temperature is mild, both
im summer and winter, and is not subject to
sedden changes.
;
‘Ninth—The climate will compare favorady with that of any other section,~of the}
Pacific Coast, even with the most favored,
thére being no malaria with its resulting
ekills and fever, no violent winds, no fogs,
wer floods. _@ :
Tenth—The children reared’ in this climate and at this altitude above the sea
weually acquire better physical constitutions,
with more plumpness and firmness of mus~ eular development as well as color and vitality of the blood than thése' reared in the
valley or even coast counties.
"With this brief statement of facts, however, let it be understood that we do not
“elai for Nevada county that it~ isa “paras

of sub-tropical glories.
Nevada county lies-atittle“north—of the}

westward a distance of seventy “miles to the
Sacramento Valley. It is from twelve to
twenty miles wide. .The altitude is from
two to three thousand feet along its central

line of the Central Pacific Railroad . crosses
the eastern boundary, and travarses the
seuthern portion of the county for many
miles. It then enters Placer county, following close to the southern boundary of
Nevada county till near its western limit.
The Nevada County Narrow Guage Railroad
eennects with the Central Pacific at Colfax
aad extends thence north to the central portien of the county, passing through Chicago
Park, Grass Valley, and terminating at
Mevada City—twenty-two miles from the
Central Pacific Overland Railroad. The
eentral portions contain most of the rich
geld mines, ineluding quartz, hydraulic and
pleaser mines together with the upper portion of the Horticultural belt, while the
sively of agricultural and grazing lands.
‘Phe horticultural and agricultural section of
