Jillson, formerly of Forest City, Sierra county, and one of the original developers of the famous Bald Mountain gravel mine is now working a gravel minecalled the Blue Gravel, abotit one mile and a half from Hanley and two miles from Hornbrook station, Siskiyou county. Upon a visit to that station a few years since, he became convinced from his experience in. working ancient channelsin Sierra county and elsewhere, that similar deposits could be found there, for plenty of gold had been found in the modern rivers. For a nominal sum he bought the ground he is now working. He then set to work to run drifts, obtain water rights, etc. He built seven miles of ditch and some flumes, and has now some 800 inches of water for three or four months, and somewhat less béfore and after. ‘Phe preparatory work on the claim has taken about two years, and this is the first season that gold has been produced. Witha light head of water, four week’s run paid 3314 cents per cubic yard of earth moved, and 55 cents for every superficial foot of bedrock stripped. Mr. Jillzon showed the Press a fine retort of $3200 value and about $1000in coarse guld nuggets, all well water-worn and plain channel gold, The dump is into the Klamathriver, and there is ne, farming going on below to interfere with the mines. ‘ Mr. Jillson says this is the first work on an ancient channel in that section of country.
