Republicans of a Nevada City Precimct Ne. 1 Protest. _Eprrog Transcript :—The Republican county central committee have announced that Nevada precinct No. 1 has been thrown into precincts Nos. 2 and 3, so far ag holding the primaries are concerned. The bunching of the precinct with the others, and the depriving of the Voters from holding their own primaries, is something the committee had noright to do, besides it is unfair treatment. . We, the undersigned, emphatically protest. In other words, we do not propose to stand it. -The committee give as a reason for their action, that the representation for delegates is based upon the presidential vote of 1888, and that there has not been a county election since the precinct was made, and that they could not tellhow many delegates the precinct was entitled to. te The fact is there is no difficulty ‘in detérmining near enough to give the precinct a fair representation. It is well known to everybody having any acquaintance with the population of the three precincts, that precinct No. 1 contains more than.onethird of the Republican voters of the three precincts. Why not take the vote for City Marshal as the basis of representation? Getchell dnd Holbrook (both Republicans) received ih precinct No, 1, 102 votes, in precinct No. 2, 69 votes, in No. 3 precinct 114 votes. : It might be said that Democrats voted for the Republican candidates, and that Republicans voted for. the Democratic candidate. No doubt they did, but suppose they did. Itis reasonable to supposo that the same’ amount of scratching took place in @ proportional manner throughout the three precincts. Now, then, the Republican candidates received in precinct No, 1102 votes, and in the other two precincts 183 votes, which is 21 votes less than two-thirds of the entire Republican yote cast, It is apparent that Nevada precinct No.1 contains over one-third of the Republican vote of the town and is justly entitled to more than one-third of the delegates, We ask the central committee to have the matter adjusted at once and give No. 1 precinct the number of delegates belonging to it, which, at least, is 6 out of the 18, It must be remembered that precinct No, 2is very small: and has a light vote. The proper representation should be: No. 1,6 delegates; No. 2,5 delegates; No. 3, 7 delegates. Signed: Jas. Cheddweden, Mark L, Roberts, John Dabb, Len. Foote, Geo. A. Bailey, Chas. H. Eddy, W.J. A few months ago one of the unfortunate {umates in the San Francisco Almshouse was inspired by the sensational statements in the newspapers with the belief that Joy’s Vegetable Sarsaparilla would helphim, But without money, how to get it was the question, Finally he wrote to the Edwin W. Joy Co,, appealing to their generosity, and it was not unheeded, the coveted preparation being sent by the next parcel delivery. Its effect is best told in a subsequent letter, from which we quote the following: -—“1 dappose you know me by this writing, and m Ciroumne es and condition. California fruit is in active demand all over the’ and at good figures. . There has been a great failure in the peach and other crops back there, and we may look to a very busy season till all our fruit is picked and danned. The following extract from a letter written by Frank Giffin to his brother William of this city will give us an idea of the situation in Maryland. He says: ‘This has been a very bad year for our farmers. The elements seemed to have combined against them and everything points to a short crop in fruit and végatables. Peaches are unusually scarce and beyond the reach of ordinary pockets: ‘ The crop has been a complete'failure. I know ofa peach grower who owns an orchard of 25,000 trees who after a thor ough inspection tound one peach on the’place. There are numberless other cases where a basket full could not be picked from the entire orchard. Our canneries are entirely cut: off so far as home product is concerned and must look elsewhere for. their supply. If California can offer that supply it will bring thousands of dollars to your State. and make your golden fruit known in Maryland which may lead toa permanent trade between the two great fruit growing States. Our demand for fruit for canning purposes is very large and it may be impossible for Oalifornia to fill the orders,” RACLES COMING. Some That Will Contest at the County Fair. George F.
