Bertha Amendt
Ninety-year-old Bertha
Cleave Amendt died Sunday at
a Grass Valley medical facility.
Services will be conducted at
2 p.m. Satuday at Trinity
Episcopal Church in Nevada
City. Arrangements for cremation have been made through
Hooper & Weaver Mortuary,
Grass Valley.
The youngest of eight
children, she was -born in
Nevada City on Aug. 14, 1897, to
John and Susanna (Hotersoll)
Cleave. At the age of 8 she
moved to Oakland where she
was raised and educated.
There she married Kenneth
Amendt and later moved to
Redwood City. She returned to
Nevada County several years
ago.
Mrs. Amendt was predeceased by her husband in 1969. She
is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jude of Auburn; son,
Cleave of Mission Viejo; three
grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
Sam Bedwell
A funeral for Sam Raymond
Bedwell will be at 3 p.m. Friday
at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary,
Nevada City. A graveside service will follow in Forest View
Cemetery, Nevada City. Visitation will be Thursday at the
mortuary.
Mr. Bedwell, aresident of
Nevada City for 50 years, died
Sunday at a Grass Valley medical facility. He was 81.
He was born March 22, 1907,
to James and Fannie Bedwell in
Bexar, Ark.
He served with the post office
in Nevada City. for 35 years. Mr.
Bedwell was a past member of
Elks Lodge No. 518 of Nevada
City. He was an avid water
skier and bowler.
Mr. Bedwell is survived by
‘his wife Divona ‘‘Tommie’’; a
daughter, Sue of Nevada City;
brother, G.B. Smith of Bexar,
Ark.; and two grandchildren.
Motorist tries to run down
driver of double-parked car

a double-parked vehicle at the
Gold Country Center in the
Basin, allegedly
tried, to run down the car’s
driver Monday afternoon.
According to the sheriff's
department, the victim — a
23-year-old Grass Valley
woman — then reportedly
followed the suspect .to the
parking lot of Nevada Union
High School where he allegedly
jumped out of his van and
smashed the windshield of her
car before fleeing.

The suspect is described asa
white male, 45-50 years of age,
6-foot, 2-inches tall, 220-230
pounds, grey hair, wearing a
plaid shirt and jeans and driving a Volkswagen van, off-white
in color.
Further details were not
available this morning as
sheriff*s reports were incomplete.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the
2:55 p.m. assault or suspect to
call 265-1471.
