A private burial was conducted
for James Clifford Evans Jr., 69,
who died Wednesday in a Grass
Valley Medical Facility.
Mr. Evans was bom July 13,
1920, in Texas to James and Myrtle
(Morris) Evans.
He is survived by his wife
Dorene of Grass Valley, daughter
Bennie Anderson of Grass Valley
and brothers Wayne Evans of

Jury hears tapes
of Barry testimony
WASHINGTON (AP) — Manon
Barry told a grand jury last year his
visits to the hotel room of a convicted drug dealer in 1988 were not
“unusual or, criminal,’’ according

local schools and graduated from
Nevada Union High School in
1987. Mr. Vierra worked as a

Valley and joined the U.S. Navy in
1988.
He ts survived by his wife Diane
of Grass Valley; parents James and
Peggy of Nevada Cuy, brother
Michael of Nevada City; and sister
Janette of Nevada City.

in the Grass Valley Baptist Church
Marguerite Elizabeth Waters
died Monday in Grass Valley. She
was 80.
Miss Waters was bor July 1,
1909, to William and Sarah Millard
Waters of Wilmington, Del. The
family moved to Phoenix, Ariz., in
1917.
Miss Waters attended college in
Los Angeles and earned a teaching
credenual. She started teaching in
Anzona, then taught for two years
at Tulare Union High School in
California. Miss Waters moved to
Japan in 1950 and worked for one
year as principal at a military
school for dependent children.
After retwurming to the United
States, she worked until her reurement in 1974 as the dean of women
at Fullerton Junior College. Miss
Walters was named a Woman of
Distincuion while living in Fullerton.

Valley in 1975. She was a member
of the American Association of
University Women, Friends of the
Library, Nevada County Travel
Club, California Association of
Women Administrators and Counselors, American Association of
Retired Persons and the Nevada
County Historical Society.
She is survived by her sister-in
law Ruth, niece Byrl Ann and
nephew William Waters of Dela
ware. Her adopted family includes
Gladys Lewis and Hudson Kent of
Tulare and Lark Zachary of Nevada
City.
At her request, there will be nq

friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday
at the home of Wes and Lark
