84 February 2nd. Arrived at Nebraska City. Crossed the Missouri River on the ice and are now in the United States again. It is thawing and the water was running very swiftly one foot deep on the ice. February 13th. We passed through Fort Des Moines the capital of Iowa. February 15th. Arrived at Nevada at the end of the railroad. Here we bid an affectionate adieu to our wagon horses and driver. As we Shall now exchange that mode of traveling for one of more speed.
