/A\embership he Is CS0oal By Jean Lund, Chairperson, Membership Services Committee, GV/NC Chamber of Commerce : The membership services committee, better known as the “Ambassadors,” has been very active this year. The whole purpose of the committee needed revision from years past, primarily to meet the growing needs of the Chamber members themselves. The members wanted more contact with the Chamber and the Chamber wanted more members as well. To be a healthy, viable Chamber, in any market, the membership is the most important element to its success. To attempt to meet the needs, as Chairperson, I concluded that we (the Chamber) needed to be more visible and assessable. In the past, the function of the Ambassador Committee was to attend ribbon cuttings, mixers, and help in the annual membership drive. Because our membership was not growing as it should have been in conjunction with the populaa -& avincaen New Member Sandra Knap ea Pp IRt) owner of Old Hardware Gallery tion growth of the county, we (the Board) knew that a change had to be made; we needed continual membership growth, not sporadic. The Ambassadors seemed to be the key to accomplishing the growth needed. We began last February with ten or so Chamber volunteers, known as the “Ambassadors” visiting businesses on a weekly basis, every Tuesday at noon. The purposes of these visitations are multifaceted; we thank them for being a member and ask how we can further serve their needs, we ask them to become a member, or we ask them to rejoin. We inform them of upcoming chamber events, present membership plaques, and invite them to become interested in any one of the dynamic Chamber committees. We get a short tour, and off we go to visit another business. To date, we have visited close to 100 businesses. Our memberaii in Grass Valley receives her plaque from Wendi Rasmussen. The best news is that we have seventeen active Ambassadors that are committed to helping the Chamber become as strong as the Board of Directors hoped it would be, and we have strengthened our ties with the business community through our visitations and our follow-up contacts. The Ambassadors attend ribbon cuttings and mixers. © They are also the primary volunteer force for Chamber fund raisers, such as the July 4th parade and the Mardis Gras dance. Creekside Cafe’. Ambassadors SS each other's company and the lunch at the Anyone can represent their business in a positive way by becoming an Ambassador. It’s also a great way to get to know the local businesses! Call the Chamber office at 273-4667 and ask for Mary Ann Mueller for further information on joining this committee. Jean Lund is on the Board of Directors of the Grass Valley/ Nevada County Chamber of: Commerce and is General Manager of the Foothill Trader. Business To Business.
