C’ounty Requires Businesses to Register Under a recent ordinance approved by the Nevada County Board of Supervisors, all businesses operating within the unincorporated areas of Nevada County will be required to register with the County by March 1, 1992. The new law includes businesses that are conducted from a residential location. The ordinance requires that all new businesses file with the County within 120 days of qualifying as a business. Filings for existing businesses that are completed by the March 1 deadline will cost $25.00 per business. A penalty of four times the normal registration cost will be imposed for late filings. In addition to the initial filings, businesses will be required to submit amended registrations whenever an enterprise is sold or transfers ownership. The amended forms must be completed within 90 days of the change. Any changes to statisti cal data provided on the initial form will also necessitate the filing of an amended registration form. Amended forms must be County of Nevada Business Registration Form accompanied by a $12.50 fee, with penalties imposed for late submission. Completion of the business registration form is simple. Required information includes the name and address of the business, contact person’s name and telephone number, a general description of the operation, the business’ legal status (i.e., corporation, sole proprietorship or partnership) and whether or not the business will be subject to the hazardous waste materials storage permitting process. Business owners should remember that the issuance of a business registration certificate is not a substitute for any other permits required by the Nevada County Land Use and Develop ment Code. Prior to establishing a land use or business in Nevada County, compliance with all pertinent chapters of this code is required. Businesses within the city limits of Grass Valley or Nevada City will not be required to register with the County but must continue to follow the licensing rules for the city in which they operate.
