Tene hema Working fon arto “The mission of the Grass Valley / Nevada County Chamber of Commerce is to enhance and improve the Nevada County business environment in order to promote the economic well being of all citizens, to enhance the quality of life for the entire community, and to communicate the views of the business community on major issues of public policy.” This statement is the new purpose statement for the Chamber. Now what does it mean? The Chamber is committed to being the liaison between its members and the business community. By providing a resource for economic development, travel and tourism, retail sales, arts and entertainment, and membership development. Promoting economic growth and development is evident in everything the Chamber does. Whether it be handing out relocation packets through the Chamber office or putting on business seminars for the local business people of Nevada County, the Chamber tries to have solutions for people’s problems. Under the direction of Executive Director Dawn McDowell Bateman, the Chamber and its staff runs very smoothly. It is not always easy when you get over 100,000 phone calls a year, but the community can usually get their questions answered. The Chamber is also led by an eleven member Board of Directors. The Board is responsible for fund raising, making decisions regarding the overall focus of the Chamber, and guiding the Executive Director into a forward direction of growth. This year these committees include the Retail Committee, Economic Development Committee, Arts and Entertainment Committee, Membership Services, Agriculture Committee, Legislative Committee, Manufacturing Committee, and Publications Committee. Each committee has a chairperson who is responsible for Cnrwtda & cme nct finding volunteers to help serve on the committee. Overall, the Chamber is a non-profit organization which has a vested interest in promoting the necessary changes to make Nevada County and the Chamber of Commerce a vital and growing concer. Through our staff, our Board of Directors, and our many volunteers, we look forward to a very bright future.
