“The mission of the Grass Valley / Nevada County Chamber
of Commerce is to enhance and improve the Nevada County
business environment in order to promote the economic well
being of all citizens, to enhance the quality of life for the
entire community, and to communicate the views of the
business community on major issues of public policy.”
This statement is the new
purpose statement for the Chamber. Now what does it mean? The
Chamber is committed to being
the liaison between its members
and the business community. By
providing a resource for economic development, travel and
tourism, retail sales, arts and
entertainment, and membership
development.
Promoting economic
growth and development is evident in everything the Chamber
does. Whether it be handing out
relocation packets through the
Chamber office or putting on
business seminars for the local
business people of Nevada
County, the Chamber tries to have
solutions for people’s problems.
Under the direction of Executive
Director Dawn McDowell
Bateman, the Chamber and its
staff runs very smoothly. It is not
always easy when you get over
100,000 phone calls a year, but
the community can usually get
their questions answered.
The Chamber is also led by
an eleven member Board of Directors. The Board is responsible
for fund raising, making decisions regarding the overall focus
of the Chamber, and guiding the
Executive Director into a forward
direction of growth. The Chamber board members also chair the
