Operating t cs ee Couey during 1858-61 this famous line ran from St. Louis Missouri, to San Francisco until the outbreak of the Civil War. 11 miles north of Bakersfield (Kern) SINKS OF THE TEJON, ALSO KNOWN AS ALAMO, ST ATION OF BUTTERFIELD OVERLAND MAIL LINES Six miles east of this point was the site of the Butterfield Stage 540 Line station called Sinks of Tejon. Operating through present Kern County during 1858-61, this famous line ran from St. Louis, Missouri, to San Francisco until the outbreak of the Civil War. Terwer Valley (Del Norte) CAMP LINCOLN A United States military post was established here September 545 12, 1862, by the men of Company G, 2nd Regiment, Infantry, California Volunteers, to keep peace between the Indians and the miners and settlers of northwestern California. It was abandoned in May 1870.
