California Mining Journal, July, 1937 Nine . Confidence Mine Completes Initial Run; a Good Clean-up CALIFORNIA STANDARD DOWN Following a recent annual report sent out by the management from its New York office the California Standard Mine at Stent closed last week, Manager A. F. Muter stating that strike conditions had tied up the movement of their concentrates at Selby. Vice-president K. B. Little’s report is as follows: “We are pleased to hand you herewith op= erating results for the first four months of 1937 and some interesting comparisons with results for the preceding ten months ended December 31, 1936. Big Increase in Production “Tt will be noted that gold production for the four months was $79,939.12, which is at the rate of approximately $240,000.00 per year, which is substantially ahead of production of $143,970.64 for the preceding ten months. During the four months, over 11,000 tons of ore were milled with an average value of $7.61 per ton, compared with a value of $6.63 per ton for the preceding period. Recovery has averaged 95 per cent compared with 90 per cent for the preceding ten months. “Net operating profit for the four months was $14,552.38 as against a loss for the previous ten months of $13,964.24. Net profit for the four months after depreciation and amortization was $7,523.87 compared with a loss of $30,651.28 for the preceding 10 months. Want Own Cyanide Plant “Your attention is called to the fact that we ship our concentrates to the smelter and receive only $31.81 per ounce for the gold contained in these concentrates. If the Company had its own cyanide plant on the property, it could convert the concentrates into bullion and would receive $35.00 per ounce for the gold produced. This difference alone amounted for the four months to $7,052.86. In addition, we pay a treatment charge and a hauling charge; so that altogether, the cost of converging our gold into cash amounted to $15,189.40 for the four months period. “The management estimates conservatively that a saving of $.80 per ton of crude ore could be effected by the treatment of our Seucnueueeasosens SONORA BAKERY JOHN J. W. J. Leigh, has attained a capacity of 125 tons per day, and is now on a full three-shift basis, employing a total of 65 men. The plant, modern and up-to-date, is capable of treating 150 tons per day. Mining in Rich Area Supt. Leigh states that mining is now in progress on the 9th, 10th and 11th levels. It will be remembered that early this year a heretofore unmined area between the 7th and 11th levels carried an exceptionally rich ore. Leigh reports the ledge to run from 4 to 12 feet in width and estimates it will average a good 6 feet. The development of this area is being systematically undertaken, nearly 3,000 feet of drifting having been done
to date. The mine makes about 100,000 gallons of water per day. Ball Mill and Flotation Richard Krebs, metallurgist, in charge of the mill reports the ore running 90 per cenit concentrate, complete recovery at the mine being made by flotation. Grinding to 80mesh is done with a ball mill, a regrind of the concentrate being made with a pebble mill, following classification. Cal-Tech Students Visit Mine June 26th twenty-one mining students from Cal-Tech, Pasadena, under the leadership of Richard Hooper, instructor in geology, visited the property and were very courteously treated by Manager C. T. Eastman. The first clean-up at the mine was made June 27th. CENTRAL EUREKA RAISES PAY Effective June 1, the daily wage scale at the property of the Central Eureka Mining Company, Sutter Creek, Amador Co., was increased 50 cents per day in recognition of loyal service of employees, according to C. C. Prior, president, 111 Sutter Street, San Francisco. own concentrates, which on 11,000 tons mined and milled the first four months, would have amounted to $8,800.00; so that the operating profit for the period on the same tonnage would have been $23,352.38 or at an annual rate of a little over $70,000.00 before depreciation and amortization and nearly $50,000.00 after depreciation and amortization.” @e THE “BAWL” MILL By Jay Pee °@ @The Daughters of American Revolution are warning against Communistic propaganda in the movies. They don’t have to go that far when every politician and office holder in the country is not only afraid to oppose Communism but is actually playing: in with the movement. The D. A. R. should right now begin looking for some real Americans with intestinal fortitude; when they find them, nominate them for office and then go out and elect them. But the D. A. R. have forgotten all about Concord and Lexington and the Green Mountain Boys, and like many other Americans (or supposed to be American) organizations, are just drifting with the tide.
