EIGHTEEN California Mining Journal, April, 1943 Placer County Copper-Gold-Silver Under Development GROUP of copper claims, 6 miles east of Auburn, where the vein can be traced 2,000 feet on the surface, have been taken over by Lewis F. Johnson, widely known mining man of Auburn, and associates. Substantial Gold-Silver Values The vein, running from 4 to 8 feet wide, has been traced for 2,000 feet on the surface. In addition to excellent copper values, the ore carries .substantial gold-silver values, which guarantees profitable operation when the present war has ended and the present need for the strategic copper abated. An undisclosed amount of ore has been developed in an incline shaft on the property. The present tunnel will be continued 150 feet to intersect the vein 80 feet below the bottom of this incline shaft. Mill Will Be Constructed After development of the upper levels, a main working tunnel 800 feet lower will be driven from a nearby canyon. At this point a modern mill will be constructed when sufficient ore is exposed. The operators are so confident that huge quantities of ore will be uncovered that complete plans for the mill have been drawn. Machinery Being Installed A small crew is at work installing machinery and equipment. A blacksmith shop is under construction and other buildings will be completed upon the delivery of additional lumber. About 40 men will be employed when the mine reaches its full development.
