'. Love You CGALIF ORR! Ii ™— , Forward march of California has been expressed through the State Fair the last 83 years. The first State Fair was held at the corner of Bush and Montgomery Streets in San Francisco in 1854. The °49 Gold stampede, the Civil War, and the founding of now famous settlements were among important events of early California romance. Through all, California’s State Fair kept pace. The fair was responsible for directing world wide attention to a new commonwealth, California’s Agricultural empire. Permanent home of the State Fair was located at Sacramento in 1860. At the third Fair, Col. J. B. Crockett laid the foundation for the successful continuation of the Fair when he won accord to place agricultural and mechanical industries on a parity with the mining of precious metals. Since then the Fair has been the show window of California’s principal industries. Remarkable strides by the State in all development is demonstrated at the 1937 Fair through California’s Pageant of Industries, The State Fair is the yardstick of California Progress.
