An Offset Claim. -__
A hired man who has been employed
on a farm in this county entered suit
against his employer the other day for
the balance of his wages, amounting; as
he claimed, to $82;
It looked at first asif the plaintiff had
. aclear case. He gave dates and figures
in a straightforward way. When the
farmer took the stand he said:
“I claim an offset for that $82, for I
honestly owe it.” ¢
‘‘What is your offset?’’ said the lawyer.
“He is an unbeliever.” _
“In what?”
' “Why, in the Bibie.” —~
_ “What has that got to do with your
justly owing the ¢02?” .
“It had a heap to do with it. I had six
hands in my employ, and we were hurried
when I hired this man. °
“He had not been with us two days
when he stopped the reaper in the middle
of the forenoon to dispute about Daniel
in the lion’s den, and in three days we
had a knockdown on the whale swallowing Jonah. The’ man who runs the
mower got to arguing about Samson, and
drove over a stump and damaged the
machine to the extent of $18. Thenext
day my boy broke his leg while climbing
the fence to listen to the row that was
going on over the children of Israel goin’
thro’ the NeJ Sea, Worst of all, my wife
said she didu’t believe Elijah was fed by
the ravens, and, hang it all, I found myself wealening over Noah and the flood.
“That is my ofset, sir; andif he was
wor'h anything I’d sue him for $1,000
besidés.”—Farmer’s Magazine. -“Yiis, George, I will marry, but you
will have to elope with me.”
“What, Clarissa? Do your parents object to.me ?” ‘ :
Peg they think you are just spleni ” ©:
“Then why must we elope ?””
“Why, George, don’t you know that
if I elope the’ papers will speak of me
as the utiful daughter of wealthy
parents ?” ‘ ‘

The advance of time ts heralded by
bleached, thin, and falling hair. By the
use of Hall’s Hair Renewer, the -hair may
be restored to its original color, lustre, and
vitality. .M. N. Johnson, Fitchburg,
Mass., writes: “ My hair was weak, thin,
and full of dandruff. Hall’s Hafr Renewer
has removed the dandruff, and caused a
vigorous growth of new hair.” Abel H.
Smith, Portsmouth, Va., writes: ‘My,
hair had nearly all fallen out, and that
which was left was dry and dead. I used
one bottle of Hall's Hair
Renewer,
and now rejoice in the possession of hair
as abundant as ever.” E. J. Adams, St.
Paul, Minn., writes: “A diseased scalp
caused my hair to fall out, and, after
using a number of preparations ‘without
avail, I finally tried Hall’s Hair Renewer,
which caused a vigorous new growth. I
am still using it, and could ask for no
better results.” Mrs. R. H. Corning,
Rattle Creek, Mich., writes: ‘ By the use
of Mall's Hair Renewer, my head, which
was quite bald, has been covered with @
fine growth of young hair”
