The
Grass Valley
Area -A Place to PlayA Place to Live
In a figurative sense, Grass Valley
is preparing for another “boom”.
It is a somewhat different type
“boom” than Grass Valley has experienced in the past.
Its first was the Indian “boom”.
Before the white man, the Indians
came because here was a plentitude of fish, game, water, temperate
climate, generous supply of native
building materials such as timber,
adobe mud and reeds, and natural
fortresses to protect their homes
from invaders.
The second Grass Valley “boom”
was the white settlers, some who
came with the ill-fated Donner
Party and those who followed soon
thereafter. They made their homes
in Grass Valley for the same reasons as did the Indians, plus the
fact they had little heart to journey
further.
The third “boom”
was heard
round the world. In droves, the
‘49ers came. They came for gold.
They left with it, and without it.
Today, a fourth “boom” is pendMove on the average of
once every six years. It seems
