SHE SLEPT HERE
Emma Nevada slept here!
(That wasn't her name until she was grown:
Young Emma Wixom was how she was known.)
Emma's Dad was a doctor; he won no renown.
He stitched up the men
At a mine north of town.
He said Alpha Diggins'The one they were from —
Was not fit for swine
Once the rains had begun.
So Emma and Mamma in winter would come
To spend the wet months in a dry city home.
When Emma grew up,
And had won wealth and fame,
Back to the home town she graciously came.
She was cheered, wined and dined
At the National Hotel,
Where. she retired early;
They say she slept well
In number eleven — the room is still there;
Perhaps you can view it;
Perhaps you don't care —
But — Emma Nevada slept there!
