WHEREAS in the year 1865
the Nevada Theatre first opened
its doors in this the Queen City
of the Northern Mines, and
WHEREAS the most brilliant
luminaries of the opera, drama
and terpsichore fought valiantly
for the privilege of appearing
in the Nevada Theater, considering this to be a highpoint if
not the acme of their careers,
and
WHEREAS it was due in part
to the Nevada Theater that the
City of Nevada, now known as
Nevada City, gained world renown as a lustrous Island of
Culture and Civilization sursurrounded by a howling Wilderness of Ignorance and Boorishness, and
WHEREAS on the evenings of
July 30 and 31, 1965, the Nevada
Theatre is to be revitalized by
an Extrava. “GOLDEN
DAYS” depicting the Highlights
of the last one hundred years of
Public Entertainment, and
WHEREAS on the evening of
July 31, 1965, local citizens will
reenact an 1865 theater f undraising supper and ball in The
Nevada City Elks Hall,
NOW THEREFORE, I, Arch
McPherson, by virtues of the
Power vested in me as Mayor.
of Nevada City, do hereby and
forthwith declare the aforesaid
July 31 to be Nevada Theatre
Day and do invite One and All
to get Their Tickets Early.
