Amerian Flag . EEK A strong growing variety with large, thick stems, which have a sweet flavor. Packet, 10c; 02., 25c. Head Lettuce [ss New York or Los Angeles (Iceberg type Head)—A crisp, cabbage-heading lettuce. extremely large, sometimes 15 inches in diameter and weighing 2 or 3 pounds. The interior is beautifully blanched, creamy white, crisp, tender and delicious. It matures slowly, first forming a conical head which becomes globular with maturity. Te is of excellent quality, very sweet and stands up well. Because of its size, plenty of room must be given between plants. Especially recommended as a standard main crop lettuce. Very popular with market gardeners and is equally good for home use. Grown exclusively by shippers. Packet, 5c; 0z., 25c; 14 [b., 85c; Ib., $2.50. Hanson—A large, sure header of a clear light green color. Excellent for midsummer planting. Crisp, tender, with a solid, wellblanched heart. The large heads are of attractive appearance: They are almost globular—grow to a fine size. Packet, 5c; oz., 20c; 14 Ib., 60c; Ib., $1.75. Paris White Cos—A Romaine type of head lettuce. It makes ‘a good, strong growth and the quality is excellent, being crisp, juicy and agreeably snappy. In order to insure tender, well blanched hearts the outer leaves should be gathered up and loosely tied together to exclude the light from the heart. This will blanch thoroughly to a beautiful white. Grand Rapids—This is a widely known variety which has proved popular for growing an extra-early supply of bunch lettuce in the home garden. An excellent variety for greenhouse forcing to supply the winter markets. The plants make a compact bunch of light green leaves which are attractively fringed on the edges. A tasty, crisp and juicy bunching Lettuce of appetizing appearance. Early Curled Simpson—This fine non-heading variety is also known as “Silesia or White-Seeded Simpson.” Large plants with light green leaves which are well crumpled andfringed at the edges. It forms a compact bunch of crisp, brittle leaves of excellent flavor. Grows quickly and°is very hardy. Tender, juicy and of piquant taste. Fine for spring and early summer use. Early Prizechead—Medium-large plants composed of many curly leaves. The leaves are bright green, shaded with light brown. One of the best home-garden varieties of quick growth and excellent flavor. It is strictly non-heading, but yields a good quan.tity of juicy leaves.
