As time swiftly passed, tragedies took their toll Fires razed entire towns leaving penniless many a soul But the stout-hearted people among the ash dust Took a firm stand to rebuild or bust To lay a foundation, a plan to make stick To use stronger substance, like mortar and brick The towns sprang to cities, they were coming of age Like the toot-on-the-whistle of their fine “Narrow Gauge” The strong Iron-Horses steaming up and down the lines Bringing many provisions, and some real happy times Picnics in the summertime were quite a common treat Hundreds would gather for old friends to meet The New Narrow Gauge would lend a free hand To get to the picnic with a thirty piece band And there sure would be a clap of hands When the trumpets sounded from the big brass band How the beer flowed freely (they couldn’t stand a prude) Why it put everybody in a festive mood Every summer-Sunday was surely a holiday For the Twin City Miners to rest and to play
