As time swiftly passed, tragedies took their toll
Fires razed entire towns leaving penniless many a soul
But the stout-hearted people among the ash dust
Took a firm stand to rebuild or bust
To lay a foundation, a plan to make stick
To use stronger substance, like mortar and brick
The towns sprang to cities, they were coming of age
Like the toot-on-the-whistle of their fine “Narrow Gauge”
The strong Iron-Horses steaming up and down the lines
Bringing many provisions, and some real happy times
Picnics in the summertime were quite a common treat
Hundreds would gather for old friends to meet
The New Narrow Gauge would lend a free hand
To get to the picnic with a thirty piece band
And there sure would be a clap of hands
When the trumpets sounded from the big brass band
How the beer flowed freely (they couldn’t stand a prude)
Why it put everybody in a festive mood
Every summer-Sunday was surely a holiday
For the Twin City Miners to rest and to play
