migrated to Illinois in 1806 and were prominent in the
settlement of Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas.
2. Jacob Rector, (Jr.)? son of Harman and grandson
of John Jacob Rector was born about 1743 in Virginia.
He died in Fauquier County in 1795. His wife was Elizabeth Hitt, the eldest daughter of Harman and Mary
(Weaver) Hitt and a direct descendent of the Tillman
and Cuntze families, all 1714 immigrants.(12) She was
born December 25, 1748 in Virginia and died about 1818
in Virginia. They had seven children: Joseph, Susannah,
Mary Ann, Thomas, Dorcas, Vincent* and Winifred.
The Fourth Generation in America
1. The Rectors of Illinois, Missouri'and Arkansas.
In 1806 the nine sons of Frederick and Elizabeth Rector left Fauquier County to seek their
fortunes in the West, and their parents soon
followed them. They remained in the Illinois
country until 1816 and in that time surveyed
and sectionized almost the whole state. These
Rector brothers formed a close-knit group of
courteous, yet most clannish brothers and were
looked upon by the department at Washington
as solid and steadfast men. Each of them was
six feet tall, straight as an arrow, yet quiet and
gentlemanly. They were lawabiding and honest.

William Rector was the leader and Elias his financial
advisor.
They were also patriotic and played major roles in
the War of 1812. On August 15, 1812 William Rector
was commissioned a Brigidier General and his brother
Nelson was a Captain under Major Zachary Taylor, who
