Northern California. He is the efficient and
popular secretary-treasurer of the Nevada
County Bank, one of the pillars of that fastexpanding town. (23)
Following the sale of the bank in 1923, E. M. Rector
devoted his time to personal business matters and to the
enjoyment of his growing family.
As previously mentioned, he and his brother returned to an active business life in 1933, when he accepted a position of vice-president and manager of the
Nevada City branch of the Bank of America. He continued in this capacity until mandatory retirement at
age sixty-five, but his valuable services were in such
demand that he remained on a consultant basis until
shortly before his death in 1955.
The Ninth Generation in America
1. Bayliss Bartlett Lindley, grandson of B. S. Rector
and son of Vivie Rector Lindley was born in Nevada City
on March 28, 1901.
After attending the public schools he entered the
University of California where he was graduated with an
A.B. degree in 1922 and an L.L.D. degree three years
later.
For a short time, while awaiting admission to the
Bar, he managed the National Hotel and Annex. “Bay!”
then returned to Berkeley to continue with his law work
where he died unexpectedly on November 6, 1932 at the
age of thirty-one years, six months.
2. Charles Rector Lindley, younger brother of Bayliss, was born in Nevada City, July 17, 1903. He also
