  • North San Juan Street Scene in 1916 eA Ate dsc LOOKING DOWN MAIN STREET in a southerly direction in 1916 with the National Hotel and Masonic Hall in the foreground is the legend on the back of this rare print. The photographer is unknown. The ridge community was a bustling center of hydraulic mining activities in the 1870s and 80s. Population decreased after hydraulic mining was banned and people moved elsewhere. North San Juan remained “a sleepy little hamlet until it was “rediscovered” jn the 1960s when folks seeking the solitude of the Ridge began moving in and building their homes. ‘.
