. GOLD HILL STAMP MILL
A third mill of twenty stamps was constructed at the Gold Hill Mine,
Grass Valley, California, by the Aqua Fria Gold Mining Co. of London.
It won a premium prize at the California State Pair in 1858, after a
commission reported it to be the best mill in the State. Bach stamp
was lifted by a projection coming in contact with an iron arm of a
revolving cam. (Note side-view.) For comparative size, the premium
mill of 1898 is shown at the right.
