HIS SPECIAL ISSUE of the GRASS VALLEY DaILY MORNING UNION is printed in the interests of the
mining industry of Nevada County. It will show that in spite of the dull times which have been
prevalent all over the United States, this section is making steady and permanent advancement.
We have tried to deal fairly with everybody and everything that we have had occasion to notice in
this work and feel that we have succeeded. While some sections may not be so fully written up as others,
no slight has been intended, but owing to limited time and the difficulty in getting data from remote parts
of the County omissions are likely to have occurred.
The MORNING UNION has spent over $1600 on this edition, which is certainly an evidence of enterprise
not to be dampened by the ‘‘ stringency of the money market,’’ and we know that our efforts to interest the
world at large in the mining resources of Nevada County, will be appreciated by our patrons. We desire to
call attention to the fact that this splendid edition of the Grass Valley DAILY MORNING UNION has not
interfered in the least with the regular daily and weekly editions duringits preparation. This is only another
evidence of our facilities for gathering the news, and illustrates the extent to which our business has grown,
showing a vast contrast to previous special editions issued in Grass Valley, which were gotten out only
with the greatest effort and much to the detriment of the regular business of the paper.
The publisher claims only a share of the credit for the remarkable success of the MORNING UNION, and
acknowledges gratefully his obligations to the people who have extended the generous patronage that it has
been his sole aim to merit. A city or country may be generally judged quite accurately by its newspapers,
and no resident of Nevada County need feel ashamed at any time, to mail to distant friends a copy of the
MORNING UNION, and especially this special edition, giving a full resumé of her mining interests. And
one word in conclusion: Nevada County is no place for poor people, we have now hundreds of men
seeking employment. What we require is the mining capitalist. The mines are here, it requires money to
develop them.
