esa ae i LETT Lik & D. Merrill Team Captain A. Hampton “A” Captain ‘ai Grass Valley track teams continue to offer competition to the track powers of Northern California. This year twenty track meets were scheduled to give our teams their most severe test in history. Our teams have met the challenge of the larger schools by developing outstanding distance men and quarter milers like Hutchinson, Rodgers, Merrill, Smith, Roth, and Hutchings. Other all around athletes who competed in several events have made it possible for the Miners to build up a reputation as a track power. Outstanding all around track men on this year’s team were: Chuck Hollmer L. Zugnoni (record holder P. V., B. J., and S. P.), Alvon Hampton, Jerry Angove, “C” Captain John Wells, and Ray Andrews. This year the squad was captained by Dave Merrill. Alvon Hampton led the A team. Ray Andrews led the B team. Lawrence Augnoni was the leader for the C’s. These boys played an important part in building team morale, boosting the sport, and recruiting new candidates from the team. This year’s team enjoyed an excellent turnout and each team was well manned in all events. Track is a sport offering more than 40 boys a chance to participate in nearly every meet. “B” Captain.
